Hi, Just wanted to get some wisdom on some possibly stupid questions as I treated myself to an SSD finally excitedly opened it up and thought wow it's small... um maybe too small... The SSD arrives and is literally just the SSD looking sexy and tiny in the box with instructions on how to install it in a laptop. But how do you install this in a Fractal R2 that only has 3.5inch HDD drive bays? Is there a convertor I should have / can buy? Planning on installing it on Saturday and didn't want to have a massive anticlimax! thanks
In R3 you would use the floppy screws and screw them in the 3,5" bay. Now for R2 it is a completely different question, and you can choose either a DYI solution or a buy something. With DYI solution i mean - SSD can be anywhere, so just plug it in and put it somewhere, anywhere . Or you can buy this : http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-sdp08-525-bay-converter-thats-takes-2-x-25-hdd Put your SSD in it, put this in the 5,25"->3,5" bay convertor and you are done. Or get one R3 hard drive tray from a friend.
You can do anything you want. Duct tape to the case, screw in from 1 side (so its floating in a 3.5" bay), cable ties or elastic to suspend it. If you dont move your case around you really can do anything you like.
ah thanks - like the insides to look respectable so have found this now that you guys pointed me in the right direction: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/icy-dock-mb990sp-b-ez-fit-dual-25-to-35-sata-and-ide-ssd-hdd-bracket probably overpriced and overspecced but it looks the part thanks for the help.
