Ok im haveing great diffuculty installing this under Redhat v8. Im following what it says in my RH book but it doesnt work for me. Its telling me to go into the "Red Hat Printer Config" Program. When i get there no printers are listed so i click on new and give the printer a Queue name and cick on LOCAL for queue type. next it asks teh device: /dev/lp0 and /dev/usb/lp0 are listed. SInce im useing the first USB"2" port on my motherboard i select to use /dev/usb/lp0. Next i choose my driver for the printer which is HP> DeskJet 960C> then i choose hpijs(*) and click forward and apply. I then go to test the printer by selecting Test >A4 PostScript TestPage when i do this it comes up saying "There was an error printing the test page". Ive gone through all the availabel drivers listed for my printer and ive tried it on a paralell cable but it still doesnt print. Why the hell isnt it printing? i just dont get it. Could ne one help me with this please. Id be very greatfull. Thanks:)

Okay, I had this problem before, I tried everything, yet my printer refused to work. After an hour of ****ing aorund and threatening the Redhat man with a screwdriver, my Mom comes in and does it, I tell her how to do it, as she doesn't know, and she goes through EXACTLY how I did it before. BANG. The printer works fine.

My advice, get soemone else to do it, doens't matter if they nothign about computers, just tell them where to click.

Short of that, /dev/lp0 should be your printer. Try rebooting, randomly loging off, etc. Redhat is an evil little man who delights in abusing and raping people.

    Don't forget the screwdriver.

HP printers work best with a program called CUPS which auto-loads with the linux kernel, googleize CUPS and read up the documentation on that

I cant remember if i set one up or not to be honest with you. If im useing a usb2 connection would linux pick it up as usb1? Doesnt linux not support USB2 yet? and owuldnt it be /dev/usb/lp0 if on a usb connection?

As far as I know, USB2 is just a faster version of USB, but works just like USB1, so Linux should pick it up fine.

What do you mean your not sure whether you set one up or not ? I thought that was what you were having trouble with, setting upt eh printer, and Linux not using it properly.

Make sur eyour DNS is working properly, and also make sure that your machine is called localhost.

    It should be structured:

    http:// <DNS-name-here> : 80/

By default it's localhost.localdomain I'm not sure if you need the domain as well in there, so . . . . .
