I'm thinking about getting one of those keychain/USB drives, and would like to install an MP3 player on it, so I can put a CD full of MP3s in my drive and play the MP3s... is this possible?

(I'm at work where I can listen to music, but we only have CD player installed, and can't install any other software)

I'm thinking winamp 2 or something like that.

You would probably need some kind of mp3player that doesn't need to install anything in the windows or system directories... some 'simple' mp3program?

At a guess Winamp 2x is a little too complex to just be able to put the .exe file straight on the USBDrive.

there's only one way to find out!

could stick it in a different folder and see if it works (winamp.exe i mean)

depending on what type of computer & what os etc..... there's probably something built in that'll play mp3s... (WMP for instance) so you could just throw the mp3s on it and go

Winamp will work, Ive put a copy an a CD and it worked fine, and my current winamp folder is 3.47 meg, so it shouldn't take up that much space on the thumbdrive.

I stand corrected... Winamp will running from the USBDrive, it just needs to be installed to it and then seems to run fine (Didn't try movies or visualisation tho)

I believe your question is answered!

    :D

    :)

    Thanks!

Now to convince my wife to let me get a USB drive!

WMP is installed, but it won't work for some reason, and it is also an older version (7?). (I'm running 2k pro)
RealAudio is installed, but I have to select each file individually, plus I have some weird thing where I don't like RealAudio & refuse to open it more than once a week :p

    Thanks again for the confirmation!

/me thinks about installing winamp 2 on the flash card in my digital camera....

On a side note, try to make sure that your work computers will let you install a USB storage device.

The computers at my old college (running W2k) wouldn't install any USB device until we got the tech guys to allow it (not without first having to justify it for about 20min ).
