I've used google and cant find a solution. Maybe im blind but, I have a 20 gig maxtor hard drive and i go to install win xp home on it and it goes through the first thingy with the blue screen and then says to restart. On the restart i still have it from boot from cd and then hard disk. (Do i change it from that to hard disk then cd.) Anywayz, it says that it has a disk read error and to restart and it does the same thing over and over again.plz help

Is you windows CD good? Is it a legal copy? Try running a scandisk on the drive to find issues.

Are you hitting enter (or anything) to boot from CD again? Because if so... don't. You only wanna do that once.

It's possible you may need to format it in FAT32 also.

Double check your IDE priorities. And set the jumper for master also. Remove any drives on the same IDE cable. I recently put together a setup (it had been years since doing this) and completely brain-farted about the Master/Slave setup. I put my CDRW on the same channel and it was previously set for master on a seperate IDE channel. It didnt go very well, and ended up exactly the way you described.

Force the HDD to Master with the jumper (screw that cable select crap) and place the drive on the IDE cable ALONE.

Are you doing a fresh install before you transfer it to the other computer?
