What is the difference if any if you restore a car over just buying one new or used?

    I dunno.

I know insurance for kit cars is REALLY cheap, though

What do you mean by restored car? As in restoring a classic to as new condition, or restoring a modern crash write off. I am currently restoring a written off 2002 seat ibiza and there is no difference to insurance costs.

I can answer the restored car question…Classics and antiques need to be taken to a shop that specializes in those kinds of cars. For a fee (not cheap) they will go over the car on a points basis and give you a written appraisal for the value of the car. Then you have to find an Ins. Co. that handles that type of ins. and give them a copy of the appraisal. They will then tell you the kind of coverage they are willing to give you and for how much (you should be sitting down for that last part).
