Firstly is it ok to use intel and amd logos on custom case builds? If so has anybody got a cnc laser/router ready "intel inside" logo and an "amd radeon Graphics" logo they are willing to share?
Not for profit just as a decoration on my custom case build. So should be fine. If anybody has the logos in cnc ready format it would be much appreciated EDIT: just found this here http://server.iad.liveperson.net/hc...&sg=1&st=406741&documentid=136783&action=view if I understood correctly you have to be a licensed partner to use their logo so I guess I will have to do my own design.
I also don't know the legalities, but this is what I know: -> You can't use the logo in any kind of advertisement without their permission. -> You cannot insult or miss represent the brand image or company. -> You not sale your product that has the logo that you put yourself, as you don't have an official written permission from either company to be allowed to. -> You cannot have with the logo, any potential offensive nor inappropriate stuff with it (no porn, and all that) -> The logo may not be displayed as a primary or prominent feature on any non-Intel or non-AMD product. -> Many company follow this rule: "The Logo may not be imitated or used as a design feature in any manner." -> Any trademark or register marks needs to be there. -> You cannot suggest or say in any way, that your computer is from Intel or AMD themselves.
In that case, you are correct. You can contact Intel and show your work and (very important) any prior work, and see if Intel allows you to use their logo for free. But don't expect a response back any time soon, unless they'll benefit greatly from it in some fashion. Also note that you cannot copy the logo. So you need something original.
I am not good at artsy stuff so thinking I will just use a fancy font and back light it. I wonder if its ok to use the term "Intel Inside" or "Amd Radeon Graphics"? I guess they would be registed trademarks as well
Yup. The problem with all that, is that company have full time lawers to protect them, make sure that everything they do follows the law, patents, and so on, but also ensure that their brand, and trademarks are used properly. All you need one day, is that you showcase on the web or wtv your cool mod design, and than you have a lawyer from either company bring you documents (and not in a nice way, or pamphlet or for informative purposes). The CEO or PR are out of this. The only way you can MAYBE fix this, is if the Media is on your side, and you contact them, and then an upper decision is made to ignore this, and possibly, if you are lucky compensation to make you happy (and provide a happy ending for the Media so that people who read the story, don't change their mind on the brand or have the company image altered in the consumer eyes). But in the mean time, its a lot of problem and headaches, even if it's just a cease and desists letter, which in any case will piss you off, as you did all this work.
