Yes, we all probably know about the new Intel Macs by now, and if you're in this forum, you're probably shocked and amazed at how PowerPC just got pwnx0rb473d.

I've always juggled between wanting a Mac and a PC, and despite my two forrays into Apple, I always went back to Windows. Yay, as times are changing! Not only are Apple's X86 hardware pretty competitive, their prices are too!

    But anyways, think:

If a Core Duo could destroy the G4 by 4-5X, and G5 by 2-3X (even if those numbers are very ideal situations), how would OS X run on something say - an Athlon FX-64, or the mother of all multi-threaders, a Pentium 955?

Well, Apple technically, could run on any X86 machine. I'm just saying, hypotherically, if some h4x05... I mean Apple, loaded up OS X on a Pentium 955, how crazily fast it could run, given the dual core HT, and OS X's ability to multithread.

As long as the pc you've built supports SSE2 (SSE3 pref) you can run OS X86, but you wont get support for it on these boards.

    Have a google.

And before you ask, yes, that means it is illegal.

Software piracy (which it is since Mac OS X86 has now been released) is a crime.. yadda yadda :blah:

Not yet, maybe when they've released the Universal Binary version.

Although it'll take some hacking (I think it'll need a linux style bootloader due to PC's not yet supporting EFI, and also a kernel modification to get around the security) it should run.

You can download versions of it with full instructions and installers, no hacking required. It's just not very good though. Maybe if all the hardware you had was 100% compatible it would be ok, though.

Yeah. I have one, only 10.4.1 though.

It can be upgraded to 10.4.3 though.

Anyway, we REALLY need to find some user benchmarks for these things, although its obvious they're going to totally pwn the current G5 iMacs due to the dual core-ness.
