Hi all. I just want some advise. I'm looking at building myself a gaming rig based on the 1156 socket. I've set my budget, picked out all the components and ready to click the order now button. Then i only go and mis-type 1156 into google with 1155... What is this???!!! Another new socket? What i'm asking is 3 things really; 1. Is 1156 going to be a worthwhile upgradable route? 2. Does anyone have any idea if 1155 is going to be worth waiting for? 3. Or should i just pretend i never saw it and just get on with 1156? I'll be thankful for any views. Cheers
As far as i'm aware, the 1155 socket is supposed to fall in line with sandy bridge being released which isnt due until Q3-Q4 2011. If it were me I'd pull the trigger on 1156 and enjoy it for (at least) the next year and a half.
1. don't see why LGA1156 isn't a worth well upgrade route 2. it'd be a long time before it's released 3. pretend you've never seen it, all the information you've seen are still rumours at this stage
1. Maybe, however, if Sandy Bridge use LGA1155, LGA1156 will be very short-lived, and there is no future upgrades, is not a good thing. 2. 1155 is gradually eliminated in the future, but that's a long time. 3. now it is inappropriate to buy 1156, 1156 price raised to very high, because it is new products.
I have not heard the socket referred to as LGA xxxx, so I can't comment on that. But I don't think you should worry. I don't know what Intel's long term plans are here, but I seriously doubt you will not have an upgrade path. Use Google to search for "Intel 2010 roadmap" to get an idea of what Intel has said they are shooting for. You might also try looking for information on the "Piketon" or "King's Creek" platforms as these were the code names used for the LGA 1156 socket platforms. You can wait for better hardware forever because there is always something new in development.
