LOVE that first one. What was the lighting like in the room? And what macro lens did you use for these?

/stop convincing me to drop $600 on a new lens, dammit.

    Muharharhar, sorry...

All natural lighting. Mid afternoon sun coming in through bamboo blinds. He likes to lounge in the sun, which makes stalking him with a camera pretty hard to resist.

As for the optics, Sigma 150/2.8- my new favourite lens, cost me about a grand though (damn CAD)...

Ouch, the CAD really must not convert well right now. The Sigma 150/2.8 is what I've had my eye on too, but it's a good bit cheaper down here.

Awesome job. You took something good and improved upon it. The eye is much better with more color.

And I completely agree with Firehed wrt the lens... It's been on my wishlist for a while and it's only been cemented further by that eye shot.

Wow, those are both great. Love the DOF and the amazing sharpness.

Ok next you'll just tell us how many shots did you take of the eye? :D Must be a pain to get the focus just right with so shallow DOF... Good job, it's stunning.

The hardest part was actually getting him to keep his eyes open wideish. The funny part is, I went over to where he was sitting with my wireless keyboard, music ready to blast from speakers behind me when I hit the space bar, and camera set on a gorillaPod- I dialed in 8FPS, then hit space and the shutter at the same time.

    The rest is history.

The AF performance of the D300 (v1.10) is almost magical.

    Neat idea

The first shot is properly nice.
Second has good focus, but just isn't exciting enough IMO (unlike the first).

Also, your cat has shinier eyes than mine.

Who would have thought spray and pray would have resulted in such an awesome photo!

    Wow, great shots!

I recently got a 1000D w/kit lens and a telephoto, but it's been killing me not being able to get nice close up shots.

These photo's aren't helping the urge to get a macro lens lol.
