    This reminds me of a funny story;

    It was while I was studying at college. I used to work in a little computer store in Exeter, well we were building some machines for customers as you do and a guy called Stuart had a problem with the particular machine he was building; everytime he entered the BIOS, it would lock up and power the machine down.
    Now after some cake, and some head scratching he systematically went about replacing the components inside this rig.
    Four Hours later, after replacing everything from the CPU to the PSU he frowned, looked at the mouse and muttered "Well the only thing left to check is the f****** mouse" I smiled and turned away for a few moments only to hear him scream and see a mouse smash against the wall next to my head :D

    Moral of the story.. Always check your rodent :rolleyes: :p

    It's a mystery I may never fully understand :)

    I would imagine it was some sort or short circuit within the mouse that affected it in some way but thats pure speculation :lol:

    If you're getting lockups in DOS, sound like hardware. I've had similar problems, first time the mobo was replaced under guarantee & cured it, second time I put the box in the back of the car, drove to a mate's and it was perfect for the next few years. Just needed a good thump... :D

    So check all cards and memory are seated (remove & replace), same for all cables.

    Ok this just got a lot more funner. The last time it stalled, i hit the power button for a few secs as usual and it turned off, waited a mo, pressed on, didn't come on, well did, lights, fans, but no hdd wind up and no initiation of monitor with gfx card info etc, ffs this is annoying me now, i tried reseating everything, i'm running bare bones, no cds, no floppy, no nk204, just one hdd, gfx card, sound and nic, no cc's running, no el wire, not even fans.

    System is stable at 40 degrees (if you can call it that), appears to be working fine, waiting for it to happen now! Just a matter of time.

    I haven't reformatted and reinstalled yet as this all points to being hardware doesn't it? So place you bets pls, mobo? whatcha rekon.

    When I was running on a Cyrix I had a problem with a virus but norton detected it, threw the PC into DOS and sorted it and my PC ran fine ever since (As fine as a Cyrix 200 can run anyhow)

    Just make sure you have Anti-Virus Protection enabled in your BIOS, it'll flash up a warning if ever something tries to access your boot sector or the FAT Table.
