Hi guys, I ended up installing the broadband modem into an old Cyrix 233 MII, Win Me today and the machine recognises it fine but then I had difficulty configuring the thing! Basically it doesn't auto-configure using the Freeserve Broadband disk and I don't know what to select in the internal modem settings.. What exactly should I do to get a newly installed internal modem to connect to the internet via Freeserve? Much appreciated.. and this one goes to Kong and Pranks7er in particular! :)

Have Freeserve which provide a Broadband internet connection service. She already has a computer upstairs connected to this Broadband service through a Speedtouch USB ADSL modem but my friend also wants to connect the ground-floor machine (not using them at the same time). I have connected the modem to the Filter provided by Freeserve and then connected it into the BT phone socket.

that filter is probably for a phone (because DSL opperates on a higher frequency than regular phones), so you're filtering out the actual DSL itself

No. you're supposed to use the filter - it has a phone and modem socket on it (RJ-11). I just double-checked in the manual.

btw.. the modem and a phone are both connected into a filter upstairs (the Freeserve box came with two filters). The broadband connection is working fine up there.
