This mod was posted in my Media PC thread, but I am posting it here also for more people to see. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As part of my Media PC I wanted to have integrated wireless headphones. I have used this model now on my main PC for years, and I love the sound quality they give. They are a simple RadioShack $49 model (Bought on sale for $19, now RCA branded) You can buy this model here: www.RadioShack.com For Febuary the are on sale for $29.99 not bad... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok, first lets rip out the guts. The headphones recharge via the black cable, this will be extended to the back of the Media PC The jacks on the back of the board are Power switch, Power Jack, RCA Input, and 1/8" Input -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well since this will now be an internal device I need to re-wire all the parts. So I de-soldered the parts from the board. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With the jacks removed the PCB fits perfectly on top of my DVD Drive. It will be mounted on top of a piece of Plexiglas to keep it from shorting out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now to wire up the internal connector. I simply soldered wires from the various jacks to a set of headers. The set of headers is super-glued to the PCB. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The power connector for the floppy fits perfectly onto the header. (Right) I used a jumper to short out the switch, as I plan to have the transmitter powered whenever the system is powered on. Next is the Charger connector, this cable runs to a jack on the back of the Media PC, were I can plug in the charger to re-charge the headphone's batteries. The of course the Audio input, I used a CD-Rom Audio connector for this, as they are shielded, and built for audio. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- One of the unfortunate features on this transmitter is that the charger will only work when the audio transmitter is powered off. Since I want it to stay on all the time I had to hack the charger circuit. The diode above (D1) disables the charger whenever the audio transmitter is powered on. So a simple cut of the wire disables this, and allows the charger to work whether the transmitter is on or off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Even though the LED's are infrared they give off a dim red glow. This will hopefully be visible through the case's front. (Actually my camera captured the LED's as purple, I had to Photoshop them back to red) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the end, a perfectly working internalized headphone transmitter. The audio quality was not effected in anyway, and still sounds awsome. The next mod will be to put Red LED's into the headphones.
that is what i'd like to call a real mod.... puting two thing that just aren't normally together, but were meant for eachother great work zap
