I guess it would be an internet server. Not a web server for hosting sites. And not a DHCP/Router but a server. I was wondering (im sure its possible and has been done) if anyone knows how to have a server on a LAN (on 24/7) that keeps all temp internet files then no matter what pc you log on from and whatever user you will have the files.... AND as its on 24/7 say late at night when im not downloading anything it could sift through a list of sites that i have specified accessing them then spidering through their links so that those sites are quicker loading for users when they come to visit them..... Am i making myself clear?? Unlikely!!!

only one i know of is squid proxy that runs on *nix.

I've not used it myself but it was used by my university when i was living on campus.

I'm not too sure if it can sift thru websites at night so u'll have to have a read :D

You'd be doing yourself some good to put a DNS cache on it so it remembers the IP's of website. I don't know about your ISP, but NTL's DNS is useless!

I second that, they must only have one dns server for the whole of the uk and decide to break it every few months ffs :wallbash:

Thanks guys, well i have freeserve i think it was or bt i cant remember who i got them for dns servers if ne 1 wants them!
    195.92.195.95
    195.92.195.94

Not sure what good they will be to people but thats the addresses i use. unfortunatly *nix isnt a great deal of good, i really need a MS solution i could use *nix but id need to run it from my webserver which will be a little awquad because it would mean sorting it out for allsorts of packages that arn't installed as yet because all it does is host sites atm! Plus im not sure how all MS workstations would be with integrating more into linux because samba bit me in the ass first time so id rather not go down that road again!!! Oh well, thanks for all your help.
