Hi So Apple are rightfully angry that google decided to move into the smart phone business and take a lot of 'inspiration' in their direction from Apple. I understand that, and I understand that Apple don't want to be giving so much business to their biggest competitor.. But did they really need to ruin a perfectly workable mapping solution with this? (This my home village by the way) Spot the difference between "Google maps" and "Apple maps":
Street names I found a bit off in Windhoek as well. That said, I found it faster than google maps, and I am sure that all the issues will be looked at in future OS/App updates, which are inevitable. IN other words: I don't think it's as good as google maps just yet, but it's a really solid start, and it'll get there. Next year this time, people will hail iOS7 and the maps as the bestest yet or something. Apple is good at improving on things.
Nope. Apple maps are awful, period : - some cities have historic names. Like Zlin having a communist name Gotwaldov. Name change from 22 years ago not registered. - very bad resolution for most of the world - black & white for most of the world - no public transport info - no walk-only streets on the maps
For example this is my home city : Same place on Google maps : http://goo.gl/maps/jhevS And no, i didn't made that B&W .
If you look at Dundee, there is a massive band running through it which you cannot see, and a massive band that's black and white. Its utterly useless, and given its one of the main things I use my phone for I am really disappointed. They better get their act together quickly with this.
Not going to happen. Source data is simply bad. The only solution for them to get quality data ASAP is... sign with Microsoft to get Bing Maps, or sign with Google to get Google Maps. The same map issues were reported when first beta versions of iOS6 were seeded to developers. What changed in meantime ? Absolutely nothing.
Bad move by Apple, at least- it's very premature. I'll just go ahead and cross-post from /. as it pretty nicely sums up how Apple screwed several markets over nicely:
Nope, I did not need it to "load bettrer"! Don't you just love it when people assume you're an idiot and tell you so using the most terrible sentence structure and spelling.
Man I'm glad I sided with Google on the phone/tablet front. Yeah it might not be such a cohesive and polished experience overall, but the flexibility pays for itself the way I use things. I love how the quote two posts above me makes bold assumptions about the potential markets in the developing world. I'm pretty sure about 4 billion of the 4.5 referenced will never be in the market for an Apple device. They are probably more concerned with fripperies such as putting food on the table and being infants etc.
makes me wonder, Apple was strong on "no third party browser engine" front. so would they allow Google maps app into their store?
