    Hi Guys,
Wonder if anyone can help with this...
The in-laws run a kennels and cattery that is set in a few acres of land. The entrance to the business is at one end of the property, with the house and garden at the other side.
The trouble he has is that when he is indoors, or in the gardens he can not tell when he has people coming in. He had some one install an alarm that seems to be triggered by heat, but for some reason does not always work, or if it does he can not hear the alarm at the other end of the land.

He spends a lot of time out on the land doing various things from walking the dogs to mowing the lawns and general upkeep of the premises.

I proposed the following solution which he is happy with in principal.
    1. buy a wireless AP Wireless AP
    2. buy an external aerial aerial
    3. buy an external WiFi camera with motion detect Camera
    4. Configure camera to motion detect and e-mail his android phone, as well as configuring an app and bookmarking to the URL of the camera.

Can anyone see of any reason why this may not work, or what I could do to improve on the proposed solution without spending much more money. I had a budget in mind of around £100 or so, and can do the above for £120. I think any more than £150 - £200 will be pushing it a bit, especially since I have to prove it will work.

    Thanks guys

id say its a nice idea but if its the entrance been monitored your after this will be better although more expensive than £100-120

    Parabeam 600-P
    http://www.parabeam.co.uk/index.html#Parabeam Shop

Thinking about it you be be hard pressed to do it for £200 if that supposed to include a IP camera and external wireless AP

The kit you spec wont work as your specing a indoor AP with an external aerial ??? (that doesnt have a length of cable to drill to the outside)

the major let down is that in reality Motion detection is prone to false alarms and lots of them. So even if you manage to find the kit and get it all super cheap its gunna be sending false emails all the time saying people at the entrance.

Personally id give that parabeam serious consideration as it will do exactly what you want with less hassle and be far more accurate.

PS - im a technical manager for a surveillance company so i like to think i know more than average joe bloggs about the subject lol.

    Hi Adam,
Brilliant, thanks for that. I was planning on putting the AP in the loft space and running cable through to outside, sorry I forgot to mention that bit. I also saw external APs available too. The thought was he could view the feed in the event of an alert from his mobile. Tbh I was hoping the motion detect wasnt too sensitive to prevent that happening.
What you suggested looked interesting though I will take a look later at my PC. There is 3 acres of land with the entrance at the far end so the range for an alert would have to be pretty good, given the house slap bang in the middle of the land in line of sight of the gate which may hamper signal from the main unit. I like the look of it though it seems like the sort of thing he's after. Thanks for the help.
