Yeh im aware o2 offer discounts but im hardpressed to find anyone thats got any for the iphone - which is what my question is primarily - Will o2 give discounts on the iphone tariffs? has anyone here ever got any on the first gen or even managed to haggle to see if they can get it on the new one? as everytime iv asked they have said no, even when i am put through to retentions or their cancellation department.

    anyone?

No. If you want a really expensive phone, you have to pay a lot for it.

Ok understandable - I just wanted to make sure iv not been monkey'd around by the sales rep because iv not been firm enough.

    Another question;

I phoned o2 and asked them to contact me when the iphone is released and they said they would to help me sign up for it.

What im hearing is you can only have instore activation but how will they bypass this if they say they will phone me regarding the upgrade? i might have to phone them and findout...

    edit:

spoke to someone from upgrades, she was useless, not a clue- might try phone retentions and see if they have any idea...

Well apparently having spoken to someone from retentions - they say you can phone o2 up through their normal line and order it via phone and they send it out - also they change your sim to a "iphone" tariff which means when you get the iphone its not activated so you can potentially unlock it for another sim even (once that becomes available of course) but your sim is then the iphone one. What it doesnt answer is if your a new customer? they send you the phone but when does your account go live?

hmm maybe im understanding this wrong O_O

no discounts on iphone tariff for anyone because of the share of the monthly tariff Apple gets.

Anyone who says they're getting a discount either A. works for O2 or Apple or B. is a lier.

No, you know why? the contracts aren't any where near the 18month period agreed to...

[edit] just realised you mean existing customers, the reason no one has a discount is because people want the phone, if its in demand its a sellers market... [/edit]

Its also worth noting we are being kept in the dark about it as much as you guys... and as soon as we do know something we'll tell ya (providing it doesn't breach any confidentiality agreements)

I'm not sure what Solidus is asking. If you have an iPhone you just get the new one on whatever tariff (free on £45, £100 on £35, £150 on £30) and your 18minth contract starts again

we've heard nothing of iphone training, mainly because we're all ace. But it wasn't mentioned on the area conference call either

    I got one, it's black, it's slim, it's beautiful & i love it!!!

Waited for ages, but eventually got it, & it's worth every dime!

My new iPhone3G had a couple of problems, but i overcame them, a few common iPhone 3G problems, i must say that i met only a few of these problems -

Question to everyone that now has one: Does your battery life suck horribly?
I cant get mine to hold a charge for more than 24 hours, today it barely lasted the day and I made 2 calls (about 1 min each) and checked my email.

Iv used it but I always charge it when I get the chance so I guess iv not really noticed anything! I will try put mine through the test tomorow without any charge and normal usage and see how far I can get with it. It really does sound bad if your battery is dying so quick after only a small amount of use as mine stays on full bar unless I use it excessively and even then it only drops abit!

I will run an experiment on it tomorow!

I had issues with the wireless connection but it ended up being a compatibility issue with my router - go figure. I looked like a plonker infront of the o2 rep today instore when it was working fine on their network....hell having got it home now and restarting my router it works fine now!

I will see how much usage it takes to kill my iphones battery and report back tomorow!

    edit:

You should try tinker with your display settings and brightness. Have the screen turnoff for the calls and lower the brightness - its what iv done and it saves a fair amount of power that way. Also dont leave things like wireless or bluetooth on unless your using it, only turn the stuff on when you need it - even 3G. Iv noticed it saves allot of power that way!

Do you turn off WiFi and Bluetooth? Those suck up power. I had a P1i and if I left both of those on then it would last ~24hours, same happens with the iPhone

The bluetooth is off, I'll try turning the wifi off untill I really need it in which case.
I've also done a software restore which has given me the new firmware (the one without the yellow which I didn't notice much anyway) and it somehow seems as of the contacts list is faster now as with everything else on the phone which is kinda weird.

I'll also give it a really good over night charge too to be on the safe side though I was speaking to a customer at work on the phone today who was setting his iPhone up for use with our exchange servers and he said his battery life was terrible also, but once again, had wifi enabled.

Cheers for all the assistance though. I'll be giving it all a try :)

There will be an improvement. I'd suggest if you you're not constantly using the browser/internet capabilities to switch 3G off too as this sucks up power (ironic isn't it;))

I usually get 2 days with my 1G with a lot of app/video/music/EDGE browsing use and evening WiFi use

So, I've done a full overnight + a few hours charge totalling up at 16 hours, restored the software to the newer version (and forgot to note down the O2 login details from the text, oops), turned off Wifi as I don't REALLY need it apart from when I'm in the house using it as an iTunes remote for fun, and 3G as the 3G reception at work is flaky/non existent anyway and the battery life now appears to be much more how I would expect.

I am also continuing to fetch data once an hour as I was before.

So far its been 24 hours and the battery bad hasn't moved. I've made 2 calls, a couple of texts, quite a few emails, browsing while out and about and its still listed as full battery which is rather good :)

Do o2/carphone warehouse make you sign up for a contract on the spot? Or do they let you activate it at home? I really want one of these but i want to unlock it!

If you're a new customer, I believe it's on the spot. Not sure if your an existing O2 customer not already on an iPhone tariff. If you already have an iPhone on an official tariff (which I guess you don't otherwise you wouldn't be asking) you can activate at home, as you'll be using the original sim card. That's how I did my upgrade.

O2 & Apple have clamped down on activation at home as the UK is the unlock capital of the world, and most of the unlocked handsets in other territories without an official carrier was coming from Blighty.
