The term ‘console-like experience’ is one that gets bandied about a lot on the AppStore, with the likes of the simplistic-but-stylish Infinity Blade making an especially big deal about it. To us, though, the iPhone version of Dead Space is the first title that really lives up to that claim, matching great graphics with decent complexity...

What a depressing trend in video gaming. Can you imagine a version of Doom where you have to pay for guns and med-packs? It'd be like living in America!

In game purchases have been around for ages! Dead space 1, mass effect 1&2 etc all did this with armour/weapon packs.

As for the game itself. Wow! Prob the best full app yet. Decent price, graphics and controls on par with psp (at a fraction of the cost). Proper voice acting. Same creepy sounds as on the full game. Can't believe this is on my phone. It certainly blows infinity blade and rage out the window as they are nothing more than pretty on rails tech demos. IMO of course :)

What a crap way to squeeze more revenue out of gamers - at least if you're going to release half a game, do it by limiting the initial maps/levels available.

I don't see a price in this review so my objection to the pay for upgrades etc would be dependent on that. Looks very good visually,

Is it only optimised for the iPhone? And I wonder how good it would look on the iPad?

Micro-transactions is a bit annoying especially if it's going to be between the £5-£10 price point. If it was 99p then it might be worth it.

That's just prompted me to imagine a version of Doom set in Britain: no guns to fight with, and you have to queue for six months to get a medpack.

It's currently £3.99 on the app store, which all things considered is pretty good. You can pay alot more for less in the store.

There is an iPad version, and it looks superb. One thing that's completely hacked me off is that it's a separate app, so if I want to play it on my iPod touch, I have to pay twice. That sucks, especially when the likes of the *excellent* Chopper 2 are a one-app-fits-all-hardware sort of deal.
