Apple iPod 4th Gen - Wheel unresponsive?

Hi guys,

My beloved iPod is sick! For some reason, over the past day or two the click wheel has been slowly dying. It started off seeming to be harder to control, then just stopped completly. The buttons/music/internals all still work and it doesent seem to be the usual dust inside etc. All of the actual push buttons work fine - select, menu, ff, rewind etc.

I've tried the firmware update and re-installing the firmware via the updater software to no avail. I also disconnected the battery inside and tried in vain to reset it using the hold on/off menu + select, this didnt work after over 20 minutes of trying.

Any suggestions?
