Since upgrading the firmware on my iPod to v1.3 recently it's stopped playing any audio/video. I can feel it whirring up inside, but it sits at 00:00 and doesn't move. I tried fast forwarding through songs and pausing, pressing play again. No joy. I reset it a number of times (mainly because trying out video ended up crashing it completely). I did a full restore. Still nothing.

I googled around and saw a few other people having the same issue since installing the new firmware, so I downgraded to v1.2.3. Still dead :( I then tried putting Rockbox on, but that has the same issue. So I'm guessing it's a hardware problem? It's well out of warranty and would cost the same as getting a new one to fix. It's currently playing games fine, the calendar, contacts, notes, stopwatch, clock, etc. all work. It's just audio/video that refuse to work.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix it? It's such a shame it's going to end up as another portable games machine (with no audio).

    Thanks.

Cheers, yeah I think I will open it up and have a look. It happened suddenly and the worrying thing is that it happened directly after the v1.3 firmware update. I had hoped sticking rockbox on would sort it, but it hasn't.

I plan on phoning up Apple today and seeing what kind of Higher Education discount I can haggle on an iPod Touch (going from 80Gb to 8Gb is going to be scary though - but the WiFi on the Touch wins out over the 120Gb Classic). Hopefully my story of woe will help me score points. Best put on my husky voice :)

[EDIT]Not opening it. I've broken 3 nails, 2 (old) credit cards and got the first scratch (had it since 2006 dammit) on it. Given up trying to break into the little beast. It can stay as a games machine.[/EDIT]
