my 40gig zen was £150 less than a 40gig ipod at the time
i use it as a removable hard drive too, hence the 40gig
£150 is not worth it imo

iPod, like everything to come out of Apple recently, is a good player, but it's too expensive compared to the competition.

Murdoc, who cares if it feels cheap when it is half the price and has more storage?

    I care :D

I not only paid for the storage size, but for the awesome design, easy-to-view/use interface, and easy controls.

I'm not a big fan of Apple's design of the iPod mini, iThough they could have done a little more of a creative job.

Not that those were anything spectacular, but I thought they were much more creative and would have liked to see Apple incorporate some stuff thats in some of those.

once you install the driver it appears in windows explorer as another device
within that is music library and data library
drag and drop music to music library and you can do playlists and stuff
and then you can use the data library section save stuff
afaik you can do the same thing with ipod tho :)

It's aobut variety. Whilst 128MB might last 15 minutes or so, with >20GB you can put all your music on it.

But the iPod doesn't support FLAC.
    So, let's compare a 40GB iPod with a 20GB Rio Karma.

    iPod: $500
    be like everyone else
dock has no network connectivity or RCA outputs
have to use WAV files (600MB a CD)
    Holds ~65 CDs

    Karma: $250
    cooler looking
dock is included with player and has a network connection and RCA outputs
get to use FLAC files (300MB a CD)
    Holds ~65 CDs

    THe iPod is owned.

apart from the fact you have obviously been bias, youve managed to put down the cons of the I-pod against the pro's of the other, which makes no sense?? thats completly pointless and proves nothing, i bet the I-pod has alot more good points, hence it is more popular than the other .. :D

Ok, so what makes the iPod better than the Karma? Nothing.

To tell you the truth i know nothing about either, im an MD person myself, just pointing that you chose the pros of on and the cons of the other, but on other hand u obviously have the other thats why ur sticking up for it...

but from a completly non-bias'd point of veiw (dont want either) I would prefer the I-pod as WAV's are more simple/easier for people to use unless tech-junkies, also the ipod, uve put it bad as everyone has it..yeah to most people thats a good thing, means its good!!
hmm to put it in comparison, you wouldnt buy a crappy mobo for half the price of a good one that looks better (remember this is a modder's site) and probably has more stuff and support

    A. The iPod goes up to 40GB
    B. The iPod has a much better design.
    C. The iPod has a very intuative interface/controls
    D. White backlight makes for easier viewing
    E. Larger Display
    F. Contacts/e-books/games (larger display is beneficial here)

Also, Altron, you compared the price of the 40GB ipod and the 20GB karma and said that the ipod was double the price. Well, I would expect it to be if it was double the capacity. Wouldn't you? :D

Just off the top of my head.

The only advantage I see of the Rio Karma is its smaller and cheaper, which depending on your requirements, could be better.

50 songs?!? You must be insane. 50 songs at an average of 4 minutes each is just a little over 3 hours, nonstop. IMO, you must not be much of a music enthusiast. I have over 2500 mp3's in my collection. It is great that I can carry them all around with me. If I get bored with a song/album, I can listen to any song I feel like. Also, it's not like you listen to 500 songs in a row. You can create playlists with your current favs or browse by artist and listen to a paticular album.

EDIT: Goddamn, I hate when people post while I am, makes me seem like an idiot posting the exact same thing lol :hehe:
