If they make one for the 5G, I'm all over it. Not that I need video on the side of my head or anything, but I'm rather partial to sixty gigs of music on my mind, rather than up to four.

True, but the 60GB iPod weighs nearly FOUR TIMES that of a nano at 156g. I'm not sure you'd be so keen to strap one of those to your head...

Here's a guy who squeezed a shuffle into his headphones:

I know that there was another guy who did something even closer to this product, with the iPod sliding into a recess in the side of the headphones, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I don't recall whether he used a Shuffle or a Nano, though.

    Nezuji :)

Pretty ghetto that Shuffle Mod, with the unit shoehorned in the cavity where your ear goes.

I imagine Macally could / should do a Shuffle version quite easily.

    Thanks for the links!

Good idea, but leaves you with a couple of hundred pounds worth of shiny, very desirable electronics strapped to your head where any chav could just whip them off you in the street!

Absolutely, now they just need to run past you and nick them off your head.

    Awful idea.

They're huge. Fine for home use, but you'll look like Bo' Selecta's Craig David walking around with those strapped to your head...

I love massive cans! The depth and quality of sound a decent pair produces just eclipses anything you can get from earbuds and other more discrete solutions.

Walking down the street wearing a huge pair of headphones says "I love music" and I think it's a fine statement to make. Obviously, you can look a bit of a tool depending how you're dressed, but as part of an urban sort of look with jeans, trainers and a t-shirt / hoodie / parka it can look awesome.

Obviously not too practical for the gym, running or whatever - sweaty ears mmmmm...

"...Macally, who has been making Mac-related peripherals for 30 years, ..."

Not to nit pick but 30 years? They were making mac peripherals 10 years before the first Macintosh was released? Perhaps a typo?

As some one who wears over the ear headphones in the attire you describe (I can't wear in ears due to my ears being...well wrong) I can assure you that is not the reaction I generally get :p.

Secondly, big phones (Grados and few others excluded) often sound worse with portables as they are too hard to drive and the isolation they offer often isnt enough. Also getting a decent pair of IEMs do sound rather good as they are both easy to drive but also very high quality and the isolation they offer is second to none.

I have to say any pair of heaphones with a, to my mind, gimicky soultion slapped on at that rather cheap price are unlikely to sound very good. If wire tangle is that much of a problem just unplug you cans after using them and wrap the wire round something. Takes a few seconds and solves the problem for me.

As it mentioned in the article those will not be a good solution as you have the problem of interference, require regular battery changes and any musical signal receives a significant drop in sound quality. Also whilst you might argue the battery life is okay, for experience from that type of phone the quality seriosuly starts to degrade about halfway through the battery life. Finally if I remember correctly the transmitter isnt eaxaclty small on those things (1.25 by 2.5 by 0.75 inches) which seems a bit too much of a sacrifice to loose wires to me.

That can be true, but these things, at $50,00, are going to be rubbish. Lets face it, anything thats marketed towards the Ipod crowd can be rubbish, and it'll still sell in crazy ammounts, $50,00 is about £30, which is what a decent but basic pair of ear buds cost, or what a seriously economic pair of sennheisers most basic headphones cost. You want good sound, dont buy things that have gimmicks.

I'm with Comrade Penguin on this, wireless headphones are a bad idea, at least if expect any sort of decent sound quality for your money. Why people spend so much on gimmicks when for the same money you can get something that genuinely sounds fantastic is beyond me.

No typo, but possibly a semi-misleading choice of words. Based on this:

    http://www.macally.com/contactus.html

Arguably the mouse didn't exist either in 1975...

Maybe in 1975 they said "let's form a company, then sit around for a few years until something comes along that we can market our products for."?

I still think they're too big and impractical to use, more of a gimmick. I wouldn't want my iPod sitting in full view of those around me.
