I was excited when the iPod touch was first released, but then I was extremely disappointed when I found out you couldn't add events on the calender (on the go). Recently though, they updated the software and now you can add events. So now I'm considering getting a 16GB iPod Touch.

Still, I have a few questions:
    - Are there any apps available to install on the iPod touch? (excluding the "WebApps")
    - No Mail support? Any rumors of this being available at a next software update aswell?
    - Battery Life. Anybody got one? How long do they really last?

And my main concern: I use iCal & Address book on my mac and I assume syncing to the iPod touch won't be a problem at all. And syncing from the iPod to my MacBook Pro won't either. But at my job they use Dell's + Outlook (not Express) and the Calender/Contacts in Outlook. All of my client meetings/dinners/appointments, general meetings and projects are planned in my work Calender.

Will I be able to sync my work Calender to the iPod touch as a separate calender "Work" and then at home, sync it back to iCal on my Mac? Note: I don't want my personal appointments to be synced to Outlook. And the same for contacts, could I sync all work contacts/clients to a Group "Work" and sync those back to my home Mac as well? Again, I don't want my personal contacts synced to Outlook.

Any experience, tips, hints are very welcome.

PS: The iPhone is not available in Belgium yet. I don't want a phone though.. the Mail app (and other applications) are very interesting, but I don't want to carry a 500Euro phone everywhere I go (bars, clubs, party's, festivals, ..), my Company issued Nokia though : I don't mind.

Apps - not without hacking it. This will change after Feb. 2008 when the SDK is released.
Mail - same. However considering it would only function within WiFi zones, it's of a more limited usability.
Battery life - haven't used one, but if it's like the iPhone, the Apple's claims are reasonably accurate.
Syncing - hard to say. If I had Outlook installed, I'd check for you. I think you'll be able to (you CAN select what contact groups and calendars you want to sync), but I can't say for certain.

Hi Firehed, thanks for your reply.

Reading mails is not a issue when there is wifi access (I can check my mail using webmail-sites). It's when there is no wifi access that it would be nice to access your previously received emails. Just as you would on your laptop when you don't have internet access...

Also, I see there is no 'Preview' either. PDF has always been supported on Mac, so I was assuming I would be able to view PDF files on it as well.. At the end it really is still just an iPod with some extra bells. The software part is very limited (intended?).

I was really hoping for some PDA functionality. But no Mail or PDF supported is disappointing, especially since this is just some software and has nothing to do with the hardware.

Hmm... I'm not sure if I wanna spend 400euro on this little gadget.

Right. I'm sure you made a thread asking how to get roms on it. (if not pls ignore/sorry xD) So you must of Jailbroke it, I did reply and you can also get Iphone apps (which included the ability to add events on the calander), this has been aplplied in the 1.1.2 update too, but updating to will un-jailbreak your touch, removing all installed apps etc...

You can go on www.jailbreakme.com which will jailbreak your phone or touch automatically - no fiddling with terminal commands etc, it also installs installer.app which is a nice gui-ed up app forinstalling apps on your device, also there is a pdf viewer aviable but it requires you to download/put the pdf on the touch itself, making it partially useless.

Otherwise, its great, theres an IM client, some decent games making use of the accelometer (whatever its called!) and alot of decent apps around

+theres loads of guides and what not out there, Wiki and google are your friends!
