You could like.. check the website. Under Apple - Education.
Or don't you have that in the UK?

    L

I think it's less then 30% though. More like 15%.

8% on pretty much anything - iPods (with exception to the shuffle), all of the hardware, most of the software, most accessories, yada yada.

So you get discount on top of the education discount? Sweet, I wonder how much I can get a nano for :D

So anyway, who is the education store aimed at then if the prices shown aren't for us students? It seems a bit wierd, especially as it asks you for your institution name to enter it.

na...it like when you order a lappy or base unit and u say its for "educational purposes" then apple say.."ok have £200 off the price and some times we give a ipod with in the deal" but u need to get a stamped letter or a signiture from ur college/uni to sctually prove u go there....but the NUS offer is allways on and applys also but not at the same time.

if i buy a £220 black 30gig ipod..it works out as £202 with the 8% NUS discount. which is far more reasonable than £220 asking price where most online retailers sell the white one for £199 and the black one for £210.

Yeah, you have to put in your current educational establishment, for some reason the University of Manchester is not recognised and it tells you to ring the store. Obviously I could have phoned, but I thought I may as well as on here.

When I bought my iBook it was around 12% off (£614 instead of £700). At that time they were also running a campaign whereby if you bought an iPod mini at the same time (for £128 for the 4Gb), you recieved a £100 rebate. I've not seen the rebate yet though and this was at the start of october :worried:

I just show them my college ID card and they're happy to give me money off.

Ordering online doesn't even need that. Just put your town and college/uni in and viola.

    Stupidly easy!

But £202 is the same price as the Apple Education store. I don't get this difference you're on about? As far as I can see Education store and NUS discount are one and the same.

pretty much the same thing but with more expensive hardware they may require proof of college/uni....my mate had to do a letter from our uni to get her mac.

it dont matter anyways just as long u get the money off.

In the US, it really varies. Like $270 for the $300 30GB, $1799 for the $1999 MacBook Pro, $949 for the $999 12"iB, $1399 for the $1499 PB. Anyways, it's about 10% off the ipod. A bit less on the Nano and Shuffle. And stateside, you only have to be accepted, not actually attending to get the discount. Dunno if it works that way over the big pond though.

I'm surprised stores can charge an extra ten pounds for the black over there though. Apple basically says that if it's not within a dollar of $299, you can't sell. Or so it seems. Most I've ever seen off MSRP is about $5.

right just to update this thread abit...i went to the regent st Apple store and they were showing off the twin ipod dj mixing decks thingy which was really cool as the guy mixing was actually pretty good and its looked pretty simple.

and then made my way to the new ipods...man they are thin,i mean i have a 4gig mini and a 60 ipod video is prob the same thickness yet its 60gig's!! and omg is the scree beautiful and the overall feeling of a quality product was nice.

its played video(quality was awesome) and the music quality was the main thing that impressed me the overall richness of the sounds and they fixed the lack of bass in music aswell.

I asked one of the chaps standing around helping people put and i asked him about the NUS discount and he said it would be 8% on everything and just bring in ur student ID...well i be getting my 30gig ipod for £202 which is very reasonable.

http://apple.procureweb.ac.uk/ is the link to use from "your educational establishment". It's where all the offers are listed and the discounts are shown, got my 4gig nano for 138 with free engraving couple of days after release.

i checked into the student discount when i got my ipod in nov. of 04 it was about $30 of the $300 purchase, to close to $10 in the US at that time. i ended up going through buy.com because they had a $50 off deal for first time buyers with free shipping. check ipodlounge.com for the must recent deals.

Interestingly the discount does seem to be variable...

Basic macbook pro from the higher ed store (east-cambridge uni) is £1,214.95 all inc, that's less than the normal price without VAT, so 17.5% off.

    Very tempting.

    Where did my post go?

Long story short: Educational discount on a 30GB iPod is 8%, regardless of where you study. I bought one.

8.67% actually... always goto two decimal places and if you have to round remember the rules... 0.5 or above go to the next whole integer!
