    IR ports anyone?

im googled out.. anyone know anyplace that sells IR transcievers for my mobo? ECS K7S5A.. its got a lil 5 pin header on the board.. i need to locate the cable with the IR led in it..

    the pinout goes:

    1 FIR
    2 n/a
    3 +5v
    4 GND
    5 IRTX
    6 IRRX

would it be possible to make something from radshack parts?

Here is some info with vendors.

    http://www.pcremotecontrol.com/irda.html

I think you may be able to build it from RS parts, but there is one chip on it, I'll check tonight for ya to see what chip it is.
If I have time I can reverse engineer the schematic for ya.

    I have this one:

Well Serial Infared and IRDA is pretty different.

I have built the serial infared similar to Meblin's for my Car MP3 Player project. It works perfectly for receiving remote controls.

But if you want to sync a PDA or connect to another PC you need true IRDA.

Yep got your mail and then looked at this post. I have sold a couple of the IrDA motherboard headers in the UK for £9 including P&P and would beable to sell it to the US for say US$16 (Inc shipping). This would get you the IrDA device on a lead about 50cm long with a connector suitable for the motherboard you are using.

I think I have bits to make 4 of these at the moment so if anyone else wants one let me know :naughty:

Well after looking at it at home, it pretty simple but the chip is built into the transmitter/receiver.
The part number is IRM-100 You can search google for prices.
I found it for $15 here:

Or support the team and buy from Meblin

The only comment I have to make about that is that it's designed for an ASUS mb. The headers on other mother boards are not always the same (e.g. my ECS K7S5A has the 5 pins in 2 rows of 2 and 3 pins where the ASUS is all in a row). The connectors I make are created for each motherboard individually :D
