Modding Iris Basics *Updated 3/6*

For the control i thought of a stepper motor. Ive got an old one here in pieces in front of me. Does any one know how we could control it? i already use my parallel for a led display so thats kind of out. I'd prefere not to use computer interface.

If i could figure out how many pulses were needed couldn't it be done with a very simple pic?

No, came from from Stargate SG-1. A spin-off TV series from the film.
As far as i know there are no 'commercial' Stargate games around.

EDIT: That pic was when one of the Goaul'ds (Apophis i think?) tries to melt the iris protecting the stargate.

I made an iris in UnrealEd once. It worked the same kind of way as the one Phat demonstrated but the leaves all existed in the same plane (cos you can do stuff like that in UnrealEd). Has anyone got any further in the construction of a proper one yet?

 

SO what happened you guys all give up? I certainly hope not as there were some great ideas taking shape!!! ( in other words, "BUMP"!)

another more pressing project I have going is taking up most of my time, as well as exams.

 

I'm still working on my ten leaf shutter, but I still got school work too.

 

As soon as I am done with my anniversary gift I will work on this. This anniversary gift is original, cool looking, AND DAMN HARD TO DO!

 

I played around with a couple of irises in AutoCAD. The six leaf version running in one plane looks best, just a bit difficult to construct since the axis that each leaf rotate around has to be in a different plane or have the radius of 0. Five or four leafs solves that problem but doesn't look as good.

 

I've almost finished all 10 leaves, just got to sand them.

BTW, i dont know crap about digi cams, so the best advice i can give u is buy one that works

 

I just need to design and make the frame, and buy the camera.

Trust me, I'd love to put up some pics of my skill with tin snips, but I can't get the camera right now, and there are some issues with time that have delayed the project.

I'm making a case with a built in iris on saturday. So don't worry, and preliminary tests show that it will be uber1337.

 

What exactly did you test to determine that it would be uber1337 as aposed to simply 1337?

 

I had a friend who isn't intrested in modding at all, I told him and showed him what I have. He almost drooled.
