It’s coming to that time of year when what would first appear as a simple upgrade starts to turn into a £600 rebuild….but hey I digress. I want to add an SSD to my rig (OCZ Vertex 2 120GB). The problem (or not) is that the mobo has 3gb sata port so I’m conscious that I’m not taking full advantage of 6gb transfer rates. My question is: Do 6 GB SATA ports make miles of difference? Or should I say would my 3GB ports suffice for now? It would be good if this card worked on my mobo. Anyone know of a similar card? http://www.ebuyer.com/product/198971?utm_source=google&utm_medium=products Gigabyte m750sli-ds4 Phenom II X4 940 OCZ Gold DDR II 800 4GB NVidia GTX460 x 2 SLI Coolermaster HAF 922
I'm more than happy with my Corsair F120 connected to a standard SATA port on my motherboard. Boot times are lovely, app loading times are lovely, and I don't need to wait half an hour for a thirdparty 6Gb card to initialise and "save me time"...
The Vertex 2 does not exceed the SATA 2 connection and thus a SATA 3 card will not improve speeds at all.
It is worth pointing out that pretty much the whole SSD industry is moving toward SATA 3 within the next 12 months.
