Graphics Is a 7800gtx really worth £150 more than 6800GT?

    Well, is it?

Im curious to just how much better it is. I know the number starts with a 7 as opposed to a 6 but is it really such an upgrade it makes the 6800gt look dated?

Im asking because Im wondering which to buy for a gaming PC.

At this point in time, will I see any difference if 2 identical PCs were side by side running the same game, one with a 7800GTX and one with a 6800GT, would I notice any difference?

Definitely. My 7800GTX Golden Sample arrived today and I can tell you that it was worth every penny. Quiet and incredibly fast - what more can you ask for?

    bigz, you need some pr0n
I mean a 7800GTX is GOOD, but you really need some fresh air I think. Coming from someone whose only fresh air is going to the car to head out for lunch.

It certainly gets hot enough to cook my lunch :D. A few toasted sandwiches over a game of HL2 sounds quite appetizing...

I would also say it depends what resolution you play your games in and if you want all the goodies like AA etc etc. If you don't play at higher resolutions would you all say the upgrade is worth it. I'd certainly question it.....

Depends on the resolution you play at, yes... it also depends on whether you want useable HDR at high resolution and also whether you want to be able to play upcoming games at a reasonable resolution too.

@ Phillip, buzz, and bigs. Thanks for you input.

It would seem that if I want higher res (I do as I have a 24" 1900 x 1080 monitor to fill out) and HDR (I do) then get the best I can.

Looks like a 7800GTX then. If there is acctually more there then I don't mind paying more. I am always a bit dubious about paying for latest tech when there normally is allot left in the last series.

IE I am going for an AMD 3500 as opposed to a 4000 as there's only 2 GHz apart yet there over £100 difference in price!!

    Thanks everyone.

just slow down the fan, im sure it could do it for you.

hah, or that would be rather, "cooking your lunch", not "cooking your lunch for you"

ocuk have got some storming prices for these at the moment.
£199+vat for the GT and the GTX is £259+vat too.

so it might not be £150 more than a ultra.
