    Hi,

Is an Arctic Freezer 13 OK for cooling an i7 2600k overclocked to 4.5GHz in an ASUS P8Z68-V Gen3 motherboard or would a better cooler be appropriate?

What voltage are you putting through the 2600k?

It is a pre overclocked bundle I am considering buying from the harbour so I am not sure what voltage is being used. The vendor is selling the bundle with the Arctic Freezer 13 replacing the stock cooler.

If the vendor sells that with the bundle, they are saying that it will be able to cool the CPU without issue. Well then, take their word for it, and if it doesn't, you'll be owed a refund. :thumb:

It is seriously one piece of crap heatsink. I have one here and it was so **** it dint even cool a dual core very well.

Seriously do not use that for an i7!!!!!!!!

The seller is either an idiot or a criminal. Both in fact.

Thx "feathers", I respect your opinion on these matters, saved me a dud purchase and possible warranty claim, most appreciated.

Out of interest, what heatsink/fan would you recommend for an overclocked i7 2600k running at 4.5GHz? I might be better of buying separates with an OEM i7 2600k and then getting a good aftermarket cooler?

Yeah thats a much better decision :) A lot of coolers will get it to 4.5Ghz, but recommended coolers are the Gelid Tranquillo, Be Quiet! Bark Rock Advanced and the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO :)

    Yup, as mikeyman said.

Or one of the liquid kits.

You are also forgetting low profile ram if you fit a Dark Rock depending on which slots you use for ram and how many sticks lol

Is it only the "Be Quiet Dark Rock..." that requires low profile RAM just to be sure? I do not want to buy the componnents then find I need to replace the RAM.

    Basically, my shopping list is:
    ASUS P8Z68-V Gen3 or Pro/Gen3
    i7 2600k
    Heatsink/Fan
    16gb DDR3 RAM (4 x 4gb)

if you're buying Corsair Vengeance they have a low profile (lp) version. If you have another brand in mind, link it here so we can make sure as you will certainly need a normal sized RAM heatsink (or none at all) for a dark rock

I'd go for the coolermaster hyper 212 evo. Brilliant HSF and more than enough to cool a 2600K

If cash is tight Ill throw in a massive vote for the Gelid Tranquillo, very quiet and quite capable of cooling my 2600k@4.5Ghz.

My 2 cents: I have the corsair h100 on an i7, haven't overclocked it yet, but I don't think I've seen my temps above 45C yet between stability testing with prime95 and IBT. I'm very happy with it.

BTW the Crossair set water coolers like the H80 would work too. The H100 can take it to 5 GHz if your lucky with the chip. Come too think about it the H60/80 with Custom Fans would be enough even.

My H70 worked fine when using a 38mm deep Delta fan when benching up to 5.2Ghz.

But the Gelid does exactly the same and costs only £20.

Unless you are running at silly speed, full tilt 24x7 there is little reason to go with an expensive cooler.
