Hey everyone, not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here goes.

Recently, I've noticed that the Google site has changed dramatically. I believe this new layout is in some sort of prototype mode, as it only appears in my browser every so often before reverting back to the norm.

The buttons have disappeared, and everything surrounding the search bar has gone; but reveals on mouse-over of the page.

Today, I noticed that instead of no buttons and it being blank. They've replaced the buttons with some text. Here is a screenshot of Google loaded:

And here with the page revealed after rollover:

I've looked online, but cannot find any news on this new layout. None of my friends can view this version either. I'm rather freaked out. Haha.

    Discuss? :)

The characters from sesame st are appearing because its the 40th anniversary of sesame st.
Other than that my page looks normal.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about how the page doesn't have the "google search" or the "I'm feeling lucky" buttons

Try clearing your cache/browsing data in Chrome (Ctrl+Shift+Del), that should fix it (at least it did for me).

Yeah, I don't think it would be an error or something wrong for this to have happened. It does indeed seem like a test version of their new Google search.

The pop-in of the page is pretty neat. :)
Aww, I feel special to be one of the few who have experienced the new page. ;D
    Haha.

I've had that page at work for the last few weeks. Using IE6...
Don't notice it at home as I always search from the address bar in chrome

Hmm I don't recall seeing that before.... but then the only time I go to the Google homepage is when I first load the browser, otherwise I just use the address bar to search (Chrome).

I like the new look though, the reason I don't use Bing is because it is too cluttered, good to see Google isn't trying to copy them and incorporate more rubbish features

Google's homepage is drastically changing every now and then. It depends on what special day the world is celebrating. I'm using Firefox so I'm just used to it. :)

its doing the same thing in opera

looking at the source it appears to be deliberate caused by the on mouse move event in javascript

    interesting!!

Indeed. It's nice to see that they're making an effort to change the webpage to make it quicker and easier to use. (though im not sure how the google search could be any easier) :D

    I like the fade-in effect. It's quite awesome. :p
