my car has about 6 months worth of caked-on dirt and grease, a lot of it's due to using veggie oil as it sometimes gets split down the side when filling up and things just seem to stick to it. i was thinking about using a little bit of petrol or white spirit or something to shift the dirt...is this ok to do without taking the paint off? (what little paint there is left on this car i'd rather keep thanks :p)

Agreed - get the soft side of a scouring sponge and some fairy liquid on the job. That's designed to cut through veg oil. :thumb:

Get a bottle of Gunk. Only costs about a fiver and will shift anything grimey or greasey without removing the paint too.

Agreed. Gunk! It can degrease an engine, so a bit of spilt veggie oil is no problem. once cleaned, some light rubbing compound and a good wax polish afterwards.

Keeping your car well waxed should help prevent build up again.
