All the ORAC3 visitors must be bogging it down or something ?

I am finding it a lot slower than usual too.

Yep as someone pointed out, the images in the article are using about 99% of our outgoing bandwidth. So thats why it's very sluggish, although actually it's not as bad as it was ~1hr ago :blah:

Well the discussion thread has had - 600,316 Views and I would imagine that the actual number of people who just looked at the article is alot more than that...

I'm impressed that the boards can handle that kind of traffic, I guess things were all beefed up in anticipation... I have to say I was getting major timeoutage about lunch time from work.

The boards didn't have to handle too much, the page is static. Was just the server dealing with so many requests that was causing timeouts.

The forums are dynamic as it has to connect to the mysql server to get information on the new posts..new threads...updated view and thread counts...ect....

Everytime you go to a new page or even hit refresh *on certain parts of the forums such as the main page* you get new information from the server....

Gnome's article is static on the other hand...nothing changes there unless its updated in code *minus and banner rotation, ect...*

Now it is 3:30am here so if any of this doesnt make since...Ill fix it in the morni...errr afternoon when I get up :p
