So i was driving home today as normal same route back along the link road is fastest national speed limit and all as soon as you come off the roundabout its national and about 2 minutes down the road it branches to a overtaking lane so gives you chance to overtake any of the slow buses or traktor Today i was right behind a red 306 3 girls in the back two guys in the front pretty loaded down ofc now so he is driving average of around 25mph up to the roundabout as he gets onto the link road he obviously pushes it up a notch and hits 50 i still like to go for 60 as i get home quicker. So when the overtake lane became available i went ahead of the bus going 45 and caught up to the 306 going 50 and contimplated going on past him... i was getting close so i thought why not i had plenty of time and would get past no problem. As my front came in line with his front he started to challenge me and put his foot down.... they thought it was hilarious, the car behind them had closed the gap so i could'nt drop back and just let him be a nob The overtake lane ends at the top of the hill and i was getting dangerously close so i floored it ended up hitting 85 to get past the dumbass i just barely got in comfortably The overtake lane as i said ends right at the top of the hill and you can't see whats in the oncoming lane till you get over the hill as i got over there was a 20 ton lorry and trailer.... So if i left it any longer i would have ended up in the wrong lane trying to get past and head on going 80mph into a 20 ton lorry..... Its pretty obvious what would have happened I can't believe someones ignorance sometimes......
Alternatively, hit the hazards then apply the brakes. Yes, there are a lot of idiots on the roads. I'm dreading summer time when the tourists get here and all drive like crazed monkeys. But while you can't control every situation out there, being able to spot those dangerous drivers and react in good time is an important skill. Actually, you could always take a mental note of their number plate, car model, time, location, and the driver then report them to your local police department here: http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/ContactUs/Pages/default.aspx
A fellow Devon man eh? Probably a bunch of dick head undergrads - should've barged them off the road to teach them a lesson! The sad thing is, should you've had an accident, you'd have probably got the blame.
Oh for sure Thats why i was going to drop back but i would have probebly caused more trouble doing that It just blows my mind that someone would take so much risk with someone elses life just to show off to there mates Im not sure what would have happened if it was someone else that maybe was'nt as wreckless as i am and pushed it up a notch
Most of them drive BMWs or SUVs too. Although having said that, the standard of Audi driver is sinking to the same depths too now.
*coughs slightly and glances outside at the four rings on the bonnet of his car* That said, I bought mine a few years ago and rather pride myself on my driving. As for idiots like the one mentioned by the OP - I can't stand it. As I'm fairly young for my car I get a lot of that from chav'd up hatchbacks with underage girls in the passenger seats / back... it's times like that when it helps having a bit of a Q car and being able to get past safely in time... often upsetting the driver of the car trying to show off, but that's just an added bonus...
Yeh it was nice to actually wipe the smile of there faces when i did get past them But i had to haul some serious ass though, so close...
I find the worst drivers to drive the worst cars. I do believe in Clarkson's theory in that people with shitty cars are bad drivers because they don't like driving (hence why they don't care if their car is shitty). Obviously this can't be applied to everyone because some people can only afford shitty car but... even then, why not buy an older but better car ?
There may be more idiots simply because the number of cars on the roads are increasing. Sometimes one can wonder what people are thinking. Earlier today I was driving down a two lane road. I was going in the left lane (We drive on the right side here, remember) and a guy in a XC90 overtook me on the left. He then proceeded to change lanes 4 times on the 300meters between signals. Sometimes he indicated, sometimes he didn't. He also almost hit another car, so he wasn't using his mirrors either. As we got to the signal he figured he wanted to go to the right lane (you are only allowed to turn right at the signal from the right lane). For some reason he managed to stop between the lanes blocking my way ahead (more cars in the right lane than in the right). After a while he caught up to me meaning that he changed his mind once more... That got especially true about a year and a half ago. (When I bought a BMW ) Joking aside, though. There seems to be some truth in that. Sure, there are idiots driving BMWs and good people driving Audis, but often when I see inconsiderate driving there is a Audi or larger Volvo XC90 involved. It may be that there are just as many idiots in BMWs, but I just don't see it as many BMW drivers help other people in BMWs through traffic. Maybe it's just that Audis are fashionable nowadays, and so is talking on a cellphone while driving. Se the link...?
I see idiots in all sorts of things, I suppose there may be a few more in the big 'luxury' cars who think they're allowed to go faster than everyone else. Biggest thing round here is the number of people who have no idea how to use a mini roundabout.
This is soo true, I flashed to let some bint out in an Audi A6 estate, who looked at me as if I just called her a c**t, didn't gesture to say thanks or anything, then proceeded to drive at 15mph in a 30. So I dropped it down a cog and hooned it up the buslane inside of her. Some people show no gratitude towards Christian motoring, so I say f*ck the lot of them.
Because a lot of people can't afford the insurance. In England it's extremely expensive to get insurance on a new driver.
Yeah, roundabouts seems to be a big issue for people around here as well. And indicating. Apparently indicating is for people with syphilis or something... I'm sure the rush hour queues around here would be halved if people could indicate out of roundabouts.
you guys should try driving in france Especially the south, where give way rules just don't exist. I find the only way to succeed is to drive like them...sit waiting at a roundabout and people will honk, pull out infront of a truck and everyone goes meh I would hope that I'm a good driver normally; I drive a large underpowered car so overtaking etc is done with a lot of calculating as I have to get up to speed first then go for the overtake.
Old people. Stupidity. Obliviousness. The three main ingredients in the recipe for a pile up. Though any one can cause one in themselves. Anyone over 65 should have to retake their driving test tbh, it's amazing how little they notice, especially the twenty vehicle tail they've developed by driving so damn slowly.
This is why I never let anyone out! Plus on an average journey where overtaking is not possible it escalates all the way along. Every person you let out is extra delay at the next junction and therefore more cars get in front of you pushing you further back.
Or when you do show some Christian motoring and you let one car out in a queue, and the car behind the one you let out tries to push it and tries to go in front of you as well.
