As per the question above, I had someone give me a laptop that let's just say had an accident. I believe the monitor still works, and I would like to mod this display in to a computer so that I can either use it to display temperatures, HDD usage, network usages and the likes of that or just for configuration and maintenance. I have had a search around the internet and there are widely conflicting details about it, so I figured I would use Bit-techs well of knoledge to sort this problem out.

Any suggestions/links/guides will be greatly appreciated. If you need the laptop type I can provide that.

    Thanks in advance

Yes, it is possible. The panel will have an LVDS input which requires a controller board to convert from DVI or VGA. These are widely available on ebay.

Thank you very much, I just discovered that the screen is cracked so I am going to try to take it apart and see if it still works.

To see if what still works? The panel or the rest of the system?

I tore down the panel and it was cracked in the LCD side so it is of no use. The computer may be ok itself but I striped it down any way because the case was destroyed. I may try to see if the MB is still alive in it and make some sort of project from it.
