Does the built in cpu temperature sensor reliably report the cpu temp? Where is it located (or does it depend on the mobo)? Is it really that much better to put a probe under the chip, like ive seen some people do.
As we are on the subject of temperatures, what should the maximum core temperature be? because AMD rate the processor at running to 90c but is that core or surface?
The internal diode on the Athlon is actualy located inside the PCB below the die. Since the core is a Flip-chip (Installed up-side-down) this is an acurate measurement of the Core tempature.
If thats true why does mine crash when it hits 55oC at stock speeds ? and no the mobo protect is set higher? Not that I'm too worried as I'm running at max settings I can get out of my mobo at 22oC full UD agent load but just curious?
My probes, I'm pretty sure, suck. I went from a Gigabyte 7VRXP, which reported temps around 40°C when I'm doing my normal stuff and not gaming, to a Chaintech 7NJL1, which is fluctuating between 50-54°C. I don't understand WTF is up (hell, I'm glad to have temp reporting working in MBM, for some reason when I changed the onboard sound drives, I lost the two probes that are CPU and System!), especially since my cooling setup (this HSF, 1, 2, 3 and 4 case fans) is by no means wimpy (or quiet for that matter, but that's another story) and my proc, 1700+, isn't o/c'd. *sigh*
