Hi, I'm looking to build a cheap PC to edit some pictures. Ive seem you can get the Phenom X4 & X6 at a pretty decent price now seen as bulldozer is out. Has anyone had experience with the X4 or X6? Thanks John
where can you find X6 for a good price? most places i`ve seen have run out of stock and are selling BD instead
What is your price range? Do you need board and memory as well? Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk 2
If you look for a 955 or 965, you should be good. Im still using a 955, doesnt hold me back much I wouldnt bother with a x6.
in my other build im selling atm, i am using a phenom 965. it is a good cpu, i never found the need to go with a hex core phenom the sandy bridge procs from intel beat them anyway if you after better performance than a phenom x4. thats why i upgraded to a 2600k
Dont really have a budget in mind. Pretty much need everything apart from hdds, optical and windows. Im trying to get more into photo editing so thats why I was thinking an x4 or x6 would get me by for a while.
Unless you're doing insane, crazy things with massive photos, either an x4 or an x6 will be fine. I'm running an x3 and the CPU is half asleep when I'm editing my photos. The difference between an i7 and an x4 is probably a minute or less per hour when it comes to real world use.
I picked up a bargain 1055T for 60 quid. I've not done a lot of photo editing on it, but it overclocking well and runs like a demon. I know the 2500k is the better chip but at 3x the price I could not justify the expense, i got board and cpu for around 120 preowned. I've used i7s at work and in real world day to day use it don't see much difference tbh.
Go to Anandtech and check out their Bench section. You can face off different combinations of CPUs against each other. It's just great for comparing CPU speeds.
I use an overclocked X6 1090t and they're decent CPUs for the price. Make sure you shop around and get the best price possible. That said if your budget isn't tight an i5 2500K is a far superior CPU...
Sorry mate, I've been a bit preoccupied the past few days. It was actually £65 from the marketplace on these very forums. I just got incredibly lucky to get the chip for a steal when I was looking to upgrade from my 555be after Christmas.
See if you can find an Phenom2 X4 960T. It's really a six-core with 2 cores disabled and an unlocked multiplier. You might be lucky and unlock the 2 disabled cores, or at least one of them, but that's not really important for photo editing. What is important, is the fact it's a Black Edition, so overclocking is really easy, and on a mediocre cooler you can get 3600 / 2600 (core/IMC) MHz out of it (4GHz+ on a good cooler). Yes, Sandy Bridge is faster, but you won't find it cheap.
