Windows Is there any shooter out there as good as BFBC2 (single player)

I finished the single player campaign and fell in love with this game. Not in that way, but it was almost perfectly crafted, especially the pacing of the firefights and the quality of the gameplay mechanics.

I could go back and play CODMW2 but it just didn't grab me as entirely as BFBC2. It may have been more cinematic and the production values slightly higher, but it was an inferior shooter and less involving, less gratifying...

So, what do I play next? CODBLOPS scores well but is it just a rehash of CODMW2 without the BFBC2 "soul"? I know I should be playing multiplayer but I think I'll ease myself into that gradually.

Recommendations welcome.

Does it have to be a war game? Metro 2033 is a great game. Along with the Stalker series.

 

Play the multiplayer BC2, no herp derp AI to deal with plus you can't taught and brag at the AI

It doesn't have to be war related, though a shooter for sure. I did play the first Stalker for a while but didn't really invest the time. I bought them both in the Steam sale so will give them a go.

Thanks Beast for the recommendation on multiplayer. I know I'll love it (and maybe even be quite good, who knows?!), I'm just looking for something scripted and "offline" to fill the gaps.

Which reminds me, I do have Call of Juarez 2 to try, will give that a go too.

 

Call of Juarez was a super game.
Bioshock, borderlands are two more must plays.

 

+1 for Metro 2033 (too short) and Borderlands (a bit repetitive at times though)
Go back to Call of Duty 1 and 2. Those were and still are awesome.

Interestingly nobody's posted their love for CODBLOPS. Should this just be taken for granted or is it just a newer/nicer version of CODMW2? I may buy it anyway, but will I be disappointed having been such a BFBC2 "fanboi"?

 

It's not a bad game as such, but it brings nothing new to the scene. It's probally on par with COD4 it's just people are so sick of the generic type shooter they don't even bother mentioning it anymore.

Sorry to sound like a broken record but Crysis Maximum Edition is on 2 for £15 at Game. What other game should I go for do you think?

HL2 needs no mention, if you've not played and finished it you should have your computer taken off you. Simple. Looks like I maybe should try Crysis. I'd deliberately ignored it as I didn't want to encourage developers to releasing such a poorly optimised game. If it is excellent however I could change my mind...

I have got Crysis Warhead, picked it up cheap in the Steam sale, it didn't interest me enough to play for more than 10 minutes though. Is the proper Crysis more involving?

Anyway, here's a list of the FPS's I've played, finished, and my happiness with each...

Half Life, not finished (Xen, WTF??) awesome, best game ever.
HL2, finished, awesome
HLep1, not finished, started playing it again over Xmas, pretty good. Wearing thin?
HLep2, played about 10 minutes, got bored running around the tunnels.
Soldier of Fortune II double helix, played 90% of it but got stuck. Great shooter, firefights, but cheesy and over Americanised.
BFBC2, just finshed it, second best FPS ever after HL.
MOH, can't remember if I finished it, incredible, especially the Omaha beach landing scene. Dated now but I spent a lot of time on it.
Doom II, not finished, someone told me the cheat code which spoiled the game for me...
Serious Sam, not finished, pick up and play, pretty shallow though.
Quake, not finished, impressive at the time.
Unreal, not finished, not as good as Quake
Far Cry, not finished, awesome, a real step forward for FPS when it was released
COD, finished, awesome, immersive, best of the WWII games maybe
CODII, not finished, as good as the first.
Bioshock, not finished, impressive, lovely atmosphere, not much not to like really.
CODMW, CODMW2, not finished, great scenarios/scripting/presentation, lacking in personality.
Call of Juarez Bound In Blood, not finished, interesting setting and scenarios but a little amateur in production
Mass Effect, played the first 5 minutes, will come back to it soon.
Fallout3, not finished, love it, certainly in my top 5 games of all time.
Mafia, finished, in top 5 games of all time.

There are loads more but I can't remember them all. What is alarming is the small number of games I've actually finished. Is this normal or do I have ADD?

 

Max Payne 1 and 2 .
Freespace 1 and 2 Kinda a FPS but more space combat
Both Mass Effect games worth the time
