Not at all. We're talking about people who risk their lives to come across the border just to work hard at jobs you couldn't get a white person to do for all the money in the world. You may call them criminals, I call them the kind of people we need more of in this country. After all, Someone has to work hard.
You don't know what you're talking about, bud. These people are coming here illegally and are taking away jobs from people that need them and have relied on them for years. Carpenters, masons, floor installers, framers, etc., in the construction business because they'll do it for less pay. It's sad that the greedy owners of said construction companies take advantage of the situation, but it's still there. Or the smaller business man who cannot properly check illegal credentials and falsified documents. Landscaping is also a big industry in where they are not only ruining the industry, but are creating pollution by not properly obtaining licenses to do the work, buying sub grade materials and applying them improperly or dumping waste in an unapproved and hazardous manner. They can buy a truck and application equipment at any landscape or nursery as if it is for personal use, but using in as a profit business without a clue and their only advertisement is fliers left on doors. There is a reason these things are regulated in order to do them in bulk and for profit, it can be dangerous. They drive the pay rate to the bottom which is why most people who have done this kind of work cannot afford to keep doing so, not because they don't want to. These people are not risking their lives by border jumping, they are risking other peoples lives. There are other reasons why immigration has to be done legally, including health and environmental issues. Better stop to think about what you are saying.
Ah, but I do know what I'm talking about. You see, I work in a field that hires a lot of immigrints and I would rather work with Latinos any day. Why? Because they work their arses off and don't complain. As for driving wages down, that may have been the case at one time, but it's certainly not anymore. Take where I work now for example. I work at a medium sized, privatly owned lumber mill. We pay $13.30 an hour to start for unskilled labor. You would think we have no problem finding employees at that rate, right? Think again. We're usually short staffed, sometimes to the point of having to shut down lines because we don't have enough people. probably three quarters of the people we do hire quit within the first month because they don't want top show up for work at 6 am and actually work hard. Talk to any business owner around here and they will tell you the same thing. In fact, I posted an article a few months ago talking about lettuce growers in Arizona losing their crops because they couldn't hire enough people to pick, even at $8.50 an hour. That's the labor supply side. On the quality of work side I know I'd rather have a latin crew any day because they actually show up consistently and work hard. When i worked on a shellfish farm we had Mexicans who would pick oysters for 5 hours, then work in the plant for another 5 or 6, and then go work on the boat for a couple more, day in and day out. They were making exactly the same hourly wage as everyone else, they were just willing to work three times as hard as everyone else. In my expierience, this is consistently the case with immigrint workers. The reason all those professions you mentioned hire immigrints is because the show up and work hard. Getting white people to do to same is like pulling teeth on a good day.
You're not even talking about the same thing. You are talking about LEGAL immigrants....I'm talking about ILLEGAL immigrants. Legal immigrants can get a job like you describe and pay honest taxes, get medical benefits, etc.. I'm talking about illegal immigrants. Those that get jobs under false pretenses because they know in the construction industry, they do not get taxed the same. They can give false information because most subcontractors pay straight forward and use a 1099 form for taxes, either each year or only every three years, in which case they prepair to send the form out and guess what? There is no real such person and they've since disappeared or don't live at the address they gave. Or again the knowing owner of said business who pays them cash at a low wage and doesn't care because he in turn is not paying taxes or workmans compensation. The illegal immigrants put the power in the other criminals hands. Criminals helping criminals. Or again those that just go door to door drumming up business to cut lawns, spread fertilizer and pesticides without a license to work in that city or to even use those materials commercially to unknowing people and putting every penny of profit in their pockets. This also takes away from social security for retired people because they are not paying taxes or social security, so they not only hurt the current working force, but those that are retired.
I have no problem with legal immigrant more power too them but they way we treat ILLEGAL immigrants is such BS. what happens when an illegal immigrant runs a stop sign and hurts himself and others, who pays for his medical services, the US tax payer. they don't pay tax screwing the US gov. even more I really don't think it right that an immigrant is doing something illegal and doesn't get arrested but if I did anything illegal I would spend time in jail
