Hi all, At the moment I have twin Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 cards as was wondering whether I would be better off with a single 5850, I was thinking of this one. He said "twin Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 Vapor-X 1024MB"...so I'm guess he meant he got a pair of 5770 in crossfire. If you already got CF5770, then don't bother going 5850...as CF5770 is faster than 5850, and is compariable to 5870 (I recalled that CF5770 actually deliver higher frame rate than a 5870 at 2560x1600 at some games).
Whilst there's something to be said for the stability of a single card vs. two, this would be more of a downgrade in performance. Have a look at this review.
OK, I will not bother going that route, If I wanted to go with just a single card, which card should I be looking at?
You're a bit stuck. Nothing at all wrong with dual 5770's - they perform pretty much as well as 5850/5870 so there's no single-GPU choice that's worth spending a dime on. Your only upgrade path at this moment in time is dual 5850/5870 or a 5950 (which is dual-GPU on one card)
Crossfire 5770s is a kick-ass set up. As others have said, you'll be getting 5870 performance, meaning you'd have to get a 5970 to see a significant performance increase. Or get two 5850s in crossfire...
i have a pair of 5770's also and i agree with everyone else, save the cash and be happy with what you have
CF5770 is already a good setup.....get a CF5870/5870 or get the 5970 if u wan it single card no point getting a single 5850 or 5870 because you're already getting a single 5870 perfomance
This generation has shown good performance in some games with 3 cards. Nvidia do better than ATI in Dual card performance (less %dropped) while ATI do better in tri cards.
