again this **beast** crops up.... i emailed 'em with some questions.... heres the reply (its pretty self-explanitary): "FAO Ben, Thank you for your email. Our Technical Department say that the displays use the Samsung KS0066 driver chip, which is similar to the HD44780 driver. Also the flexible cable is very thin and soldering is not recommended. Regards, Alison Brown Farnell Internal Sales Office Tel 0870 1200200 Fax 0870 1200201 mailto:sales@farnell.com website: www.farnell.com/uk" so would this work with LCD Center and stuff, and how would i soldier it? do you think is hud get the one from maplins? it seems easier.... code: VX24B or code: RM88V soz about post size
Dude I don't know too much about LCD's but the one from maplin looks like it might be a lot easier to hook up.
thats what i thought, i have the exact tutorial for that -- it looks sturdy too. damn stock losss..........
I mean they did say the flexible cable is very thin and soldering is not recommended. If I was you I would wait until I get a pros opinion. Some of the guys here a really hardcore when it comes to LCD's.
Don't buy the maplins ones... do not, I repeat do not buy the maplins ones. You want an easy life buy from MO, shipping is now $10 - you can get a 4x20 MO for almost the same price as the maplin unit - about £60 all in... And yes wiring one of those lil ones isn't quite as easy a normal parallel - and i wouldn't recomment you wire a parallel lcd unless you're confident at soldering. I've seen a fair few people waste a lot of money trying now... Cheers, r.
Or if you ARE into soldering...get a 20x4 pre inverted, ready to wire to parrallel port, for about $30, inc shipping to uk Else I'd go with MO - they look good to me although i have no first hand experience Charlie
i wanna do this on the cheap, and i have time -- which saves me money..... also i can ask ppl to do the soldiering for me,
