    Asus v9570-TD GFX-5700 256MB DDR 8xAGP w/TV & DVI Retail

its $245CAD at a local shop, and thats pretty much the most i can afford...how much of an upgrade would this be from a GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB?

    is it any good?

half the RAM makes no difference. the 9800 pro will cane the 5700... a LOT.
it may have more RAM, but it will be much worse quality, and slower RAM. also, the bandwidth is also a limiting factor, the 5700 cant cope with 256mb, so it will only use about 128mb and the rest is basically a waste. the 256mb would be more suited and usefull on the 9800 pro.. but then it all gets expensive. save yourself some money and get a 9800pro. looksie at some benchmarks if you dont believe, the 9800pro is the top end card, where 5700 is nvidia's midrange card. 9800pro will own the 5700 for less money too it would appear.

Cards with 256MB are currently useless, if you look at benchmark scores for the 128MB and 256MB versions of the 9800pro they are almost identical. I'm not saying i wouldn't buy a card with 256MB, cus i am getting the 9800XT, i'm just saying that current games don't use all 256MB. I would also say get the 9800pro.

the 9800Pro weill be more expensive in Canada, and newegg doesn't ship internationally, at least they didn't 2 weeks ago. and it's $211USD. Cheapest 9800 Pro I've found that I'd reccomend, just dont' have the cash for for another while is the Sapphire 9800Pro at A-Power for $309 CAN. Shippin gisn't too bad and would run the price up to ~330, but as you said you can't afford that ATM, so I'd go with the 5700, it's a better card than the 5600 and you'll be happy with it, and it will be a definite improvement from the 64mb TI.

You have to take into account that the newegg price is in USD which works out to $275 CAN but he can't even get that price because they don't ship.

OT, just out of curiousity, how well does Farcry play with the TI4200?
