Win ME Sucks big time I saw a computer tv programme where a microsoft engineer said not to get it until at least SP6!!

Win XP Rules, I've had no problems with this at all (software based anyway, It used to be unstable but only because I didn't put the thermal paste on my CPU properly  ) altho you will probably have problems if you want to play old games on it (even with compatability modes) and you can't use old TWAIN scanners with easily.

If you need the compatability of older windows use Win 98 Second Edition it's the only one from the 95/98/ME series to use, I've had very little problems with it

My XP system got screwed up last night. I’m going to reformat it today. I’m installing ME so I can hopefully have a system that works for at least a month.

Never said anything either way (yes, I do have legal license's for 95b through XP home, excluding ME).

But, about ME being more stable on XP, hate to break this to you, but it depends upon your hardware ;) XP compatable hardware = stable XP system and unstable ME system. ME compatable hardware = stable ME system and unstable XP system. See a trend here? Before I stuck an athlon xp 2100+ into my Red Sonja rig, I had a duron 1300, the thing crashed allmost hourly (really badly, couldn't count the amount of times I had to work on it). But after I threw the athlon xp in, it magicly got immacuately stable. The only differance (other than the speed of the cpu) was the drop in temp's (from arround 60 idleing, down to 42) So again, it just depends upon your computers setup as to what it runs better. Try every OS you can find, and see what is more stable.

And don't get sp1 for xp >.< not only does it not like to install on most computers I've tried it on, but it just fattens up an allready bulky OS (you'll typicaly see a resource drop of about 2-3% in resources, unless it actualy [extremely rare]fixed a problem[/extremely rare] then you'll see a small improvement).

You can strip out all the extra crap sp1 puts into xp. My xp installs have no internet explorer, windows media player etc; I've removed all the bloatware from it and it runs loads better also a fair saving on hdd space cuz no unwanted rubbish is there. I used XPLite to do it and I'm well chuffed. :thumb:
Btw if sp1 refuses to install on a comp its usually because the cdkey is on a micro$oft blacklist, possibly a (umm how do i put this nicely ahhaa yessum) "distributed backup" or "extended trial" installation :D

I still dont like ME I reckon the last time there was a finished windows OS it was 3.11 for workgroups lol

I had WinME on my machine at work, a P4-1.7 (even had a 'Made for ME' badge on it) and it crashed and crashed and crashed.

After a couple of days, I formatted the blethed thing and put Win98se on. Hardly had any bother since.

While my father-in-law had ME on his P3-800 setup for a fair while and had no bother with it.

    Horses for courses, I guess.
