Hi guys, I laid my hands on an Optical mouse the other week. And took it upon myself to slightly mod it First up the tail light LED (ms optical mose btw) changed it no problems... put it back together.. and you can hardly see it! So I thought the LED must be fecked... Opened it up while its on and the LED is bright as hell! All I can conclude is that the Red plastic that is on the base and back is blocking out the blue rays and only lets red throgh... anyone else had this problem?
That red plastic could be the issue...but I doubt it. Check for loose connections. Maybe when you put the mouse together, something came loose and the led wasn't getting as much current as it should... also some pictures would be helpful.
just checked the mouse and the light is still active... Here is the offending mouse Heres the LED in action Again showing the brightness of the LED (8000 CMD) And you can just see the LED with the lid slightly open I'm stumped
yea. the red does that, my friend did the same thing... i would get a dremel, cut out a nice neat hole there (shapely, to fit the curves of the plastic) and leave like 1cm edge all around or so, then get some thin plastic (CD jewl case?) and hot-glue it inside, maybe frost it with some sandpaper. that would look nice if executed correctly =)
Now that I've seen the mouse...I completely agree with r3Q. Ohh...and jewel case would be perfect. I was going to suggest something else...but it would be crappy. Good Thinking!
or you might want to point the led directly into the red plastic ? to me it looks like you aimed it at the white plastic... and that doen's let to much light through ...
the back section there is actually a doubled layer of red plastic, you could drill (or melt) a hole in the inner layer and pop the led in that, would make a decent holder for it, and brighten it up a bit, I had the same problem when I modded my intellimouse explorer a while back. I ended up cutting out the back red section and putting in some painted mesh, with a blue led the white paint on the mesh looked cool as hell.
yea it just the red plastic. if it were clear you'd have no problem. you could always put a "frosted" window in the top. that would look alright. EDIT: lol i just relized i have the same mouse... maybe i give that a try myself
I was going to say make an acrylic bottom/back piece if you can and frost it by just sanding it down a bit.
