I aim to please It's a shame that a quote doesn't work properly in the code tags though. If I had more time, I might have written a quick batch file to run in a prompt window, for authenticity!
You tried putting a tag in a tag? It would have been extremely out of this world awesome to see it in a cmd window as a batch file!
If I was exercising some of that free time none of us get I would absolutely realise that dream for you! but alas, I am saving the day on every front.
It didn't make bit-tech implode, thankfully... Yeah - if I get a moment later I'll do it. Free time what?!
What is this free time you speak of?! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to put my phone away and rewire this motorised projector screen the "I'm not a cowboy, I actually take pride in my work and spend a lot of time fixing other people's mistakes" way... And before anyone says anything, yes it did work, but ask yourself if the guy who installed this messy little bit of work really cared about the final outcome of the job, or if he just wanted to get it working as quickly as possible and get to the pub that evening. I mean, he put a 5A plug on it instead of feeding it directly off the switched fused supply that's barely 6 inches away
Awesome job that the installer did there. My eye was then drawn to that funny little logo in the corner...ooh look - wossat then?
Isn't it the Tapatalk logo? (EDIT: Ninja'd ) Actually, compared to some of the wiring jobs I've seen, that's quite neat. I've actually seen someone try to work on live wires, shock themselves (and fall off their steps in the process) and climb back up the steps to carry on working. I walked away at that point, because I didn't want to be an accessory to stupidity
You want to know about sick? The inner reception door to this building from the foyer is key coded with a Videx system. Said Videx system runs off 24v - the electromagnets do anyway, all the control circuitry is 12v or less. The 24v transformers have to be fed by 240v. Whilst looking into a fault with the system earlier in the year, I found that the transformers were wired to mains sockets with lamp flex. Lamp flex. And the transformers were sealed in IP65 electric boxes - the cause of the fault I was investigating turned out to be a cooked transformer. *Shocker* ('scuse the pun). The world is full of idiots That coaxial cable is carrying a video signal to the ceiling mounted projector via an RCA socket, and yes, it's in a terrible state. It's also in completely the wrong place, it should be at the far end of this hall in relation to where it actually is. It's also in the same conduit as the 240v up/down signal for the screen, so it gets interference every time you move the screen slightly. Again, it's getting re-done.
This has become my new favourite thread -- The number of idiots in this world never ceases to amaze me. As time passes, Nathan Barley becomes even more relevant. Rise of the Idiots?!
i forgot about nathan barley! a new change management nightmare: I have to raise a change to un-install something via add/remove programs that shouldn't have been installed in the first place. I need to provide a backout plan in the event the change goes wrong (the service i'm removing is binding port 80 and preventing the service the server is built for from starting correctly). change rejected, i haven't provided a process for re-installing the software i want to remove 'if something goes wrong'. I raise a new change request explaining the issue and how i'll re-install the unwanted software in the event of any issues. change rejected, no testing of the implementation or backout plan has been conducted. So now, in theory, I have to go and build a server in a test environment, install the service i want on it. install the extra one to break the first one, then raise a change for the testing, remove the unwanted software, then re-install it to prove i can in the case of something going wrong. Once that's done I can go and raise another change to remove it from the server i actually want to remove it from. Each change needs a 2-3 day lead time and review and authorisation by two other people. Also for end of month and bank holiday purposes changes can't be scheduled from 23rd to 27th of august or 30th august to 3rd of september. And that's how I'll be spending the next fortnight
