According to ADSLGuide, the beast that is BT have offically announced what had been leaked a couple of weeks ago - The 512K service is to have it's limit abolished:

BT Wholesale has made its official announcement on new limits for the 0.5Mbps and 1Mbps services. Readers should note that the new limits do not come into effect until 6th September 2004, so do not expect ISP sales/support staff to be ready until that date, or to be able to order using the new limits until then.

The 0.5Mbps ASDL service is to have its test limit abolished, and the 1Mbps service is to have its limit raised from 41dB to 60dB. The 2Mbps services will remain on the 41dB test limit. The effect of this is that almost all people who can get a 0.5Mbps service now, should be able to receive the 1Mbps service, and a lot more people will be able to get the basic 0.5Mbps service.

More here, including a link to the full BT press release.

So, note that date on your calenders, and join everyone who's yet to get broadband in doing the dance of joy... :thumb:

Now, apparently, there's a huge amount of LLU going on with a load of exchanges every month. I think it was the first load that has been done earlier this month, but I heard news that Bourne is be LLU on September 3rd, along with a shedload of other exchanges.

Might well change over to Bulldog soon then, if it's all go.

Hopefully getting my sisters on broadband - the line length was too long before, so fingers crossed.

Ordered myself 1mb the other day, should be regraded and activated by next week. Bit of a birthday pressie for me :thumb:

No idea, if at all TBH. These rates are imposed by BT, the national phone provider. If it happens in the states, it'll be up to your phone carriers.
