The great spider mating season 2010 has been brought to Bolton.

Two biggish spiders so far tonight, I suspect it's going to get much worse.

Damn you arachnophobia! I should never have watched that film as a child.

Hey, at least we don't live in Australia, right? Could be worse.

When do spiders eggs hatch? I've got a bunch in the corner of my window that have been sitting there for months.

Get your self some Horse Chestnuts/Conkers, for some reason spiders hate them. Just leave a few at your windows and anywhere else they can get in and within a week or 2 you won't see any more.

I collected a number of conkers a couple of years back and put the by all of our windows and we haven't had any spiders in the house since.

Thank god there are no spiders in my house. In the last place some used to crawl inside when it was wet outside. I don't have a phobia, but when there's one on my pillow when I go to bed, it sure does set me off.

I sometimes have the creepy crawlies-nightmares of those things being all over the place. Just huge spiders everywhere. Here in Finland it's all good when I wake up and realize I'm at home, but waking up in a hostel somewhere in Australia really didn't help as much :D Thank god I only saw spiders outdoors there..

I live in a basement flat and spiders bloody love it down here. If I removed every one of them I saw I wouldn't have much time to do anything else.

Luckily I'm not too bothered about them but I know some of them can/do bite so I generally try and avoid them unless my girlfriend makes me get rid of them.

Just outside my front door there is a beast of a spider. No way I am going near him - I reckon it could take my hand off!

I'm think I'm right in believing that all spiders bite but in general UK spiders bite isn't strong enough to penetrate the skin.

My brother in law lives in china and he was bitten by something in his sleep and ended up in hospital, has to carry an epi pen now. :(

Haha! Yes, we have quite alot of native spiders which bite actually, some of which can be quite nasty...

    Little buggers.

If you know they've been there for months then WHY ARE THEY STILL THERE?!

I recommend using one of these to remove the infestation:

I usually just keep an empty pint glass within arm's reach at this time of year, just in case I catch one of the buggers in no man's land making a mad dash between sofas.

I really like spider's they eat flies I watch them running around on the ceiling all the time great fun, And we have some really big one's here I've never been bitten by one.

A mate keeps the mexican red knee spider as pets and he hand feeds them.

Since raising praying mantis, the adults of which usually roam around for a few hours a day, my room has become rather insect free.

I've yet to see a single spider this year.

I have had a few times when watching TV, where you think you see something moving, but aren't sure so you put it out of your mind (sort of). So you carry on watching TV and then you realise it's a bloody spider dangling in front of you. It happened the other week, and I embarrassed myself with my reaction. I think the shock was twofold in my defence though, it was just completely unexpected, and it was also a bloody great spider:D

Does anyone else think that the spiders we are seeing here in the UK seem to be getting bigger? Or maybe it's just my imagination:D

We had a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge one in my daughters bedroom the other day and if they are to big for my wife to dispose of with the glass and paper trick (yes I get my wife to deal with it ha ha) then I'm afraid the hoover comes into play.

The thing was too big to go up the nozzle and proceeded to grab hold of the pipe and start walking down it towards my wifes hands who promptly dropped the attachment and departed.

I think she bashed it with a hairbrush in the end which was not really necessary, I don't like them one bit but I'd rather they were returned to the outdoors than killed.

I get that with wasps actually (I scream like a little girl and run), but there seem to be less of those around recently then a few years ago...

Same, I'm a bit soft like that with animals and insects and stuff - I feel a bit guilty when I step on an ant! Humans are a different matter though...

You wouldn't have liked to have been in my situation when I piced up my dusty guitar and found a 5-10cm long hornet sitting on the neck just above where I was holding the guitar.

Yes, I would have crapped my load.

Nasty, hornets are horrible. I've only come across dead ones tbh.

It was incredibly docile actually. I dropped the guitar as soon as I saw it as you can imagine and when we put it outside the cat showed an interest in it and it didn't seem terribly bothered.

The yellowjackets are far worse with their buzzing and general aggressiveness.
