I can't uninstall itunes or reinstall or whatever. I get a message saying "The folder 'Program Files' contains a invalid character" What should I do? Toby. Btw I need it for my pod.
I'd normally recommend something more permanently destructive for a computer with iTunes installed but I'm in a good mood tonight so I found something that might actually help: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/639170?threadID=639170
I know iTunes is very destructive but its a good and simple piece of software once succesfully installed.
Deders can you explain this in simple terms? problem solved. FYI - first tried installing 1.4.2_12 JRE to no avail, even did a re-boot after. Next un-installed JDK 1.1 and that did the trick. Boy that was painful! chris
Ok I think JDK stands for Java Development Kit, Not too sure about JRE but it might have something else to do with Java. It looks like some of the packages that the iTunes installer installs might need to be removed properly first, but I'm not putting iTunes anywhere near my comp to find out though. Have a look through your uninstall programs and see what might be relevant.
Hmm, on my comp it on the list as Java(TM) 6 Update 24. Can you download Java separately and see if the installer package with that allows you to uninstall/repair, or even re-install it?
JRE - Java runtime environment. As an aside have you installed any patches or service packs? We (at work) have noticed a lot of perculiar things going on with w7 x64 in the past 2 weeks, but nothing common, I couldn't get programs running right
I managed to get it working by installing Windows Install clean-up utility and removing everything Apple.
