    Hi,

First post on these forums but have been lurking for a while.

I have just received all the components through to build my sandybridge LGA1155 rig and have encountered a problem with my itunes library so hopefully someone can help me.

Previously all my mp3s were on a 300 gig hard drive called m:\ . All album folders were in the root directory i.e. m:\The Beatles - Abbey Road etc

I now have a 1TB storage drive in my new set up so I need to put all of my mp3s in a sub folder to keep it tidy and organised (D:\music\). This has led to itunes looking for my music in m:\ (which doesnt exist any more).

Is there any way I can make itunes look at D:\Music\The Beatles - Abbey Road etc without me having to start from scratch and re-add thousands of individual tracks from the new location?

I know I can change the drive path on d:\ to m:\ in disk management but this still doesnt help as the music is in a sub folder \music

Hope that made sense - Thanks in advance

    Eddie

You should be able to change your music directory within iTunes to your new music directory, should be somewhere in the settings.

In the preferences under advanced tab there is a "change itunes media folder location" but this is not where my music is kept. I thought there would be a simple way to change it but it doesnt seem like there is. quite annoying

unfortunatly you will have to delete them from itunes and then re-input from there new location. im pretty sure that would occur with any media player not just itunes. just abit unlucky. you can always drag and drop the entire D:/ drive into itunes

Make single folder, then chose file, add folder to library and it should do the rest

When I moved my itunes library across computers, I had the same problem. I tried playing a song and got the "cannot find this file, would you like to locate it?" message box. Once you locate it, itunes asks if you would like to use this information to locate the other missing files from your library. Took a few rounds, but that could partly be down to my terribly ill-organised music files. Even so, it picked up the majority first time around. Team with copying my old itunes.lib file to the new install I was able to keep all my ratings, play counts, play lists etc...

Delete every song within your itunes library (i.e. select all within itunes and hit delete (dont worry it cant find them anyway)) then drag the whole of D:\Music\ into itunes, will add everything back into itunes in the same way it was before, assuming its in the same way of storage as before. Then Changed media folder location so any new music imported is placed there!

My d:music has 180gig of music in it, iTunes library has 2200 selected songs. I cant simply copy the whole lot back in as my iPhone is 32gig. (I know I can add it all in but only select certain songs but it just gets a bit messy with 180 gig worth)

It seems the only way around this is to start a new library and individually add the 2200 songs. I have decided just to keep my 300gig hard-drive in my new PC meaning I can label it m: as before to save any hassle.

    Thanks for the input everyone.
