Itunes virgin, only installed it last night, I onlt got the 'pod this morning.

I've got about 100GB of music on my system, it's about 6 years off stuff.

    A right old mix.

    Wav's. mp3's. wma's

I've just got hold of a 120GB ipod for use with my car-dock.

    works great, love it.

but in Itunes on the pc there are some odd things.

    1) I've got loads of folders called CD1 and CD2. dam thing didnt pick up the rips right, is there an easy fix?

    2) Some of the folders in itunes have mulltiple entries. For example, Sgt Pepper has 4 copies of every track in the folder, any ideas why.

    3) With appx 1000 albums, is there a good way to organise the stuff into groups in Itunes, I cant seem to see one.

    Thanks for any info

it's like that on purpose.. if you buy from the apple store on the other hand- wow look at that! XD

the software is geared so you will get frustrated and start buying music from apple.. you can get your library sorted somewhat though, first get it sorted on the harddrive the way you like before you import and convert them all to m4a.. I don't own one myself but I have used itunes to import like 20 gigs of songs and went through the same thing.. ended up with one big folder of music

maybe someone who uses it regularly knows.. I use a cheap mp3 player

Well it's like that because your music isn't properly organised. You may think it is, but iTunes can't recognise the folder names and organise it according to that, so relies on accurate metadata (ID3 tags) for such information.

I'm afraid your only choice is to download a tag editor and spend the time correctly tagging all your music. You can also do this in iTunes (select multiple items > right click > Get Info > Info tab), but for some reason, while it it gets it looking all neat and tidy in iTunes, it doesn't affect the actual metadata associated with the file itself, so if you ever want to import your music collection to another media player in the future the tags will still be incorrect, and you'll have to go through it all and do it again.

It will take a long time to do, but but it's the only way you'll get your music properly organised, and if you make sure the tags are all correct whenever you rip CDs/download MP3s then it makes the task much more manageable.

Errm, why would you want to convert it to M4A? Just convert it all to MP3 (which you probably should have ripped it in anyway), that way you can be sure it'll be supported by everything.

select them in groups, and right click, Get Info. now change whatever and it'll be saved to the group.

for managing music, one phase: smart playlist :)

I had to organize them first on my HD too and still couldn't figure out why Itunes would load some files three to four times in my list.

Ensure that the mp3 folders you are adding don't contain playlist files. That will also play havoc with your collection.

You really do need to setup your ID3 tags though to ensure items are properly sorted by album.
