iirc, that's normal. Pretty sure the one I put in my son's S4 Mini has the same wiring. Not sure where my other one is, but I think that's the same too.
Guess the one with a ‘missing’ pin goes into PSU? Not sure which way round I’ve been putting it, but not trying it again on these without some kind of test
No - pretty sure that end goes to the GPU but, again, there were significant changes to the wiring between revisions. Is the plug a solid 8 pin or a 6+2?
Yeah, think the Plex is dead. Just tried to start it again via the power brick and it did a really loud continuous squeal. Unplugged it. Guess I’ll wait a bit and try to find a better psu to fit this case. Maybe the newer Plex unit. Time to save.
Oh that’s rubbish @pete*. I’m sorry to hear that. I’d never used the DC-ATX part (I had used the AC-DC part with the 200w DC-ATX unit), so it was basically boxed as it came from HDPlex a few years ago. I guess it’s possible an incorrect cable was packed with it after they changed the pin out. Can I offer you some money back on it?
Not a prob, isn't your fault. I don't suppose you have any form of receipt from all those years ago? I could try and RMA it, failing that just see if they'll do something about it. Like maybe take it back against another PSU they have for them to refurb or something. I'll just have to see what options there are. My issue right now is if I went for another DC-ATX style, is my power brick the issue or was it actually the plex. As David said, the plex should be able to power my system easily. Or just go for the AIO - just space permitting in the HT5 (BEAUTIFUL case). I'll see what options open up if I contact them, or if theres a fix. So i'll get back to you on that. But only be a tenner or something if any. Many thanks to @David for the help.
Let me dig around. I’m pretty good at filing all my email receipts so probably do. If not, I’m very happy to sort you something. And yes, the HT5 is a lovely little case! I used the HDPlex GaN250 and it worked fine with a 7800X3D and the LP4060.
This is why it’s weird it wouldn’t power on originally. Not like the 400W one is under powered for my system. So could be the power brick isn’t doing what it should be. Might just return it to Amazon and get another depending on the psu I go for if not an AIO.
Right, I’ve got to the bottom of where it came from. I didn’t buy those bits direct from HDPlex. I picked them up as a new/unused bundle from @Goatee back in May 2021. I’m happy to send you some money back given all the hassle or, if you think 250w is enough. I could do you a deal on the HDPlex GaN250 unit I was using, which is currently sat in a drawer doing nothing but dreaming of a tiny APU build.
Righty! Well, as said I’ll email HDPLEX see if I can’t get them to accept a sob story (not likely) and do a swap/replace/fix whatever. Maybe p/c even. Likely they’ll say FO. While I wish the 250would be enough and tempted, I wouldn’t want to take that and have that go the same way. I’m going to need to find a way to see if this brick is good enough first I think, as if it is the brick the 250 wouldn’t work either. Obviously Even though from the testing the whole system while running on the big psu never took more than about 200W. The AIO from them is £170ish assuming it fits. But I don’t want any money from you really, isn’t your fault and the joys of second hand marketplaces!
The 250GaN doesn't need a brick, mate. It's a stand alone PSU. I ran a 6 core CPU with the 4060LP on one and it pulled less than 150W when gaming.
Misread! Didn’t notice the ‘GaN’, somehow! think is was assuming it was a dc-atx unit as he’d said he used the adapter with a 250w one. Duh. In that case, fair dos what would you like for the 250GaN? I’ll see what I can muster up. If you don’t mind waiting a little for the monies to come through.
Sorry for radio silence, just on my way home from work. I’ve dropped you a PM with an offer. Let me know what you think.
− Quote Time for a "family emergency" methinks! That looks absolutely mint btw. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Or the GenuineIotel Xeon E3‑1231 v3. No, really, that was a thing. Yes, it was really a genuine Intel chip. And the Intel(R) ore(TM) i5‑1245U, for that matter.
