    Sorry if this has already been answered, or maybe nobody knows (everywhere I look, I find conflicting information). But is anyone aware if Ivy Bridge CPU's are going to be backwards compatible with current 1155 boards and chipsets?

    It would be nice to have some kind of viable upgrade path from Intel this time, rather than a whole platform revamp.

    Bit-Tech published an article last week that briefly talks about socket 1155 compatibility between SB and IB. See this page.

    I just updated my Maximus IV Extreme-Z's BIOS and it said in the release notes and it said;

    and also

    So I would assume yes, it does support Ivy Bridge

    Depends on the motherboard manufacturer adding support to each BIOS. It's certainly possible but not guaranteed so check before buying :)

    +1. Exactly this, down to the letter - I checked yesterday, will be updating to the new BIOS today with my pre-BF3 format!
